Hi Guys,

So I have a 2005 1.2 Ibiza - recently started doing a lot of motorway driving in the past month and in the past week have noticed an irritating ticking noise.

It's louder than usual Ibiza engine tick/rattle that I have had on my last 2 Ibizas - I notice it particularly on starting the ignition and then it dies down. Until today I haven't noticed it at any other time but it was ticking away when I drove into work in 2nd gear - then stopped when I reversed to park and nothing when idling.

Had a service back in March...

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Most of the vag engines seem a bit tappity in my experience. My 56 plate 1.4 is becoming very noisy first thing in the morning, and recently sounding a bit spitty when on the gas.

Maybe some tappet treatment plus an oil change will help. The injectors can also be loud/ticky on these cars, so I read.

My wife's late 2002 Polo 9N 1.4 BBY engine, has always been reasonably quiet, it gets fully synthetic oil and a flush with Comma easi flush once a year. Daughter's late 2009 Ibiza 6J 1.4 B?? engine, has always been tappet from new and it gets dealer oil changes once a year. Trouble is, these early engines, well at least in the Polo 9N SE, have the air filter/engine cover and under bonnet soundproofing, the later Ibiza 1.4 16v has the smaller air filter behind the engine with no under bonnet soundproofing - and it shows!
