engine wont even turn over!

hi guys, just bought a petrol 1.6 16v leon on a y plate and all was fine. on the drive home today the oil light came on, got home left it for about 2 hours and the immobiliser/locks started acting all funny, finally managed to get into the car and now the engine wont even turn over! have recharged the battery and also topped up the oil but to no avale!

the engine doesnt even start to turn over, just the initial click and then nothing.

Any help much appreciated!

Oil light came on and you stopped though right?

i was like 20 yards from home when it came on

Lucky, battery fully charged? Might be worth putting a meter across it. Otherwise starter motor? I'd be worried why the oil was low on a car i'd just bought mind you.

Are there any lights on the dash when you try and turn it over.Can you try and turn it over by hand (spanner or ratchet)on the crank?

yes there are afew lights on the dash, we recharged the battery and also ran a meter across it to check the charge on it and it was fine. i will try turning it over by hand tomorrow and also will write the dash lights down. but if i remember rightly it was the battery light and another light which had 3 letters in it like ECD

ok tried again this morning and checked which lights come on. for acouple of seconds after turing the key all the lights are on but then after that couple of seconds just the EDC light and oil lights are on aswell as the engine light

Plug it into Vagcom & see what error codes are thrown up

ok soi replaced the starter motor on the car and fired up right away! still got the oil light on tho even after toppin her up with oil. it also only comes on when i start to drive the car, and not when the car is idle. cant see any signs of it leaking anywhere etc.

Go get it plugged into vag.com you may just have a sensor problem.
