Hi

Recently took delivery of a 1.0l Seat Ibiza (75 plate).

It's been raining heavy today and after completing a 30 minute journey there was steam coming from the engine bay.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Do I need to book it into Seat for a diagnostic ?

Thanks,
Ben

If it was raining heavily during your journey, my guess would be it’s (cold) rainwater and road spray that’s splashed onto the hot engine and cooling system which then evaporates on contact with those hot components. Nothing to worry about.

If the steam was accompanied by other symptoms - sweet smelling odour of hot coolant and a drop in coolant level in the expansion tank - that would indicate a potential coolant leak but IMHO not that likely in a new car. Keep an eye on it and check it regularly when you carry out your other regular checks (engine oil level, tyre pressures).
