Hi

Recently took delivery of a 1.0l Seat Ibiza (75 plate).

It's been raining heavy today and after completing a 30 minute journey there was steam coming from the engine bay.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Do I need to book it into Seat for a diagnostic ?

Thanks,
Ben

If it was raining heavily during your journey, my guess would be it’s (cold) rainwater and road spray that’s splashed onto the hot engine and radiator / cooling system which then evaporates on contact with those hot components. Nothing to worry about.

If the steam was accompanied by other symptoms - sweet smelling odour of hot coolant and a drop in coolant level in the expansion tank - that would indicate a potential coolant leak but IMHO not that likely in a new car. Keep an eye on the coolant level and check it regularly when you carry out your other regular checks (engine oil level, tyre pressures).
