Hi all, this is my first post and I'm looking for any advice or suggestions anyone can give, It's a bit of a long story but I'll try to keep it short:
I have a 2004 Seat Ibiza 2.0 Sport Petrol (Engine code AZL)
I recently came back from holiday to find my battery completely dead (everything was off, even the clock and alarm system). I jump started it from another car and took it for a bit of a drive to try and get some life into the battery. (I realise now that this may have been a waste of time as the battery was probably at the end of its life).
The first thing I noticed was that the power steering wasn't working at all and the PAS light was on.
When I got to around 4,000 RPM I lost power and the engine sounds like it's struggling, the EPC light also comes at 4,000 RPM and turns off a few seconds after I keep below 4,000RPM.
I've now replaced the battery with one from another car, it's not brand new but at least the car now starts up ok. The power steering now works fine; in fact the steering is now a lot 'lighter' than it ever was before. I believe this is because it's electro-hydraulic power steering and the old battery was struggling to give enough power to the electric motor?
However the EPC problem is still the same even with the new battery, so I'm looking for a bit of advice on what to do next. I seem to have the exact same problem as this guy:

He said he changed the crank sensor and that appeared to fix the problem, so I'm thinking about buying this and fitting it myself:

Just wanted to check with you all that I'm doing the right thing? I obviously don't want to keep buying and changing different parts if there's no need.
Does it make sense that the crank sensor has gone faulty the same time the battery died? The car wasn't standing for long, it was just over a week.
I'd really appreciate any response you guys can give.
Many thanks,
