Hey There,
I was wondering if some one could give me some advise.
I own a Leon SE 20V Auto 2002 model. Back in January 2010 I Started to notice that I would have to pump the accelerator to get the engine going when I turned the key. This then progressed to it eventually showing an EPC light and the traction control light coming on after a few mins of driving the car each time. I took it to my mechanic and he ran it through his system and said the temperature sensor needed changing. So we changed the Temp sensor (at the same time we noticed the battery we dying so we replaced that to). After a few days the problems came back. This time it came up as the Air Mass Meter. So I went ahead and ordered one from SEAT and had that installed.
Again after a few days the same issue came up on the dashboard, However this time when I turned the engine on and off it refused to reset, the car remained in Limp mode permanently. So I took the car one final time to my mechanic. He said it must be the throttle body. So I Finally bit the bullet and booked it in with SEAT. They said it was the Throttle Body too. SEAT cleaned and re-adapted the Throttle body and advised me to monitor the situation.
Since January of this year the car has been perfect until the last weekend of August when I was on my way to my new flat (car full of all my stuff) when the EPC light and traction control light came on, the car went into limp mode. I turned the engine on and off a few times and managed to get the lights to clear. The next day I took it out and the same thing happened again but this time just the EPC light came on and the car had a noticeable loss of power.
So after the problem came back I booked it in with SEAT again. They have had the car for two days and have kindly only charged me for two hours of investigation. However they said that they cannot pin point what the fault is exactly. SEAT has said it could be the throttle body or it could be something else. They just do not know this time what it is. I have been advised to take the car back and ‘wait’ for the situation to get worse so they can pin point which part has failed. (Sound like they have given up)
A new throttle body is £550 just for the part from SEAT which is way too much for a car of this age. However everything seems to be pointing to that but no one is 100% sure.
Does anyone know what the solution might be to get this car fixed? Or has anyone experienced this problem before and would they kindly give me some advice on what to do. I am tempted to just sell the car with the fault listed in the sale and get another car as I can see this costing me a lot of money in the long run.
However if I could get it fixed for a reasonable price I would prefer that.
