I have always used v power since i have owed the car would there be adverse effects on using the super unleaded from esso beging that is is only 97 ron and not 99 ron ?

but the cars mapped to run on 98ron min.... esso is 97 ron?

the ecu will accomodate for the lesser ron and adjust/pull the timing incurring correction factors, if the ecu has learned 99ron then it will adapt to 97 yes, but adjust timing for the extra knock.

imho, an extra 5er for millers into the esso, which will be cheaper than v power anyways, and the ecu shouldnt need to retard the timing.

also the op is stage 1 mapped, which more than likely will be set to 98+ ron to run optimum(LY)...lol

granted the effects wont be the same as 95 ron but will be different to v power

250 bhp map doesnt appear to be too aggressive.
ive run revo and apr, and with both i have put in 97 ron now and then with no issues at all.
Yes i will accept that ultimately 99 ron can provide more power, but really its a nats c()ck of a difference.

difference between the ecu learning curve of "now and then" to useing regular for the ecu to adapt to the lower octane and induce knock though andy??

agressive map is relative really, oem map is designed for 98 ron.

when i say now and then, i mean rarely, probably after 10-20 tanks of v power.. so adaption or lack of is not an issue.

you may be right that the oem is mapped to run on 98 ron but it runs ok on 95.. but then thats another arguement which has been done to death on here.
(besides selling a car that can only run on fuel not openly available in the UK when the car was released would be madness)

We all have different approaches to things so we wont agree on this, but then it would be boring if we agreed all the time :)

Mate you will be totally ok running 97ron, and TBO if its really even 97ron(or 99ron) by the time it gets into your car.

As mentioned above you may get CF's but the timing will only be retarted slightly, but honestly we don't all drive it like were on an RR on a daily basis(well not all of us;)).

Also in relation to ECU learning, i think this is BS, these ECU's adapt very quickly, if there is more octane in there you will get extra bang for your buck and it is less prone to early detonation.

I put my car on a RR once as a test with 95 ron, it made 240bhp, then i added some millers CVL, 2 runs later and it made 260bhp, so this thing about ECU learning i think is a bit misleading.

If you plan on ragging it around get the good stuff, for a daily driver fire in 95/96/97ron which ever is freely available to you and your pocket.

Fuel cap says 95/98.

I use either Tesco Super or V-Power

I might try using basic 95 and millers like I did when I was on diesel, that was better than 'superdiesel'.

That's just had me reading up on different ratings, cumulating with the learning that before Unleaded at 95 RON the leaded petrol that used to be sold was 97 RON, he reason for very old cars to need the lead additive is...to bring Unleaded to 97 RON!

I wonder if you could just use some of that Lead additive then instead of Millers or Super....I would imaging if it did work, long term the lead would be bad for the car.
