Right took my car (lcr mk1 55 plate) to get MOT'd last sat and on the way there the excessive light symbol came on and stayed on.

Went to garage and the car passed its MOT but the garage didnt have a fault reader system thingy and said it might just be a glitch and see how it goes for a few days.

Well the light is still on!

Ive done a search and read some posts and most say to go to the dealer as it could be nothing and just needs a reset or it could be something major and need work.

The reason for this new thread is most the previous discussions on this were dated 2007 or before and thought there may have been developments and more information available 2 years on.

I have not noticed any performance issues with the car, its not drinking petrol or oil anymore than usual, and the temperature in the car is the standard 90 too. Also ive not noticed any odd smells and the heating is working fine.

I am planning on booking it in the dealers for a fault code check. What is the cost of one of these?

Any additional help much appreciated.

No way of telling without getting it code read :)

You can buy a fault code reader for less than the stealers charge to check it once.

Go round some of your local garages and one of them is bound to have a reader i live in the sticks and there are plenty of readers around. i have my light on aswell but i have removed my cat
