Excessive Pollution Warning Light

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me

I have a 2001 Seat Leon Cupra and about 2 months ago the Excessive Pollution Warning light came on and stayed on. I took the car to the garage and they switched the light off - and said keep an eye on it - bring it back if it happens again.

It did happen again, and the computer diagnosed an issue with the cooling system - no more specific than that. I was told that it could be the belt slipping on the water pump and that I would need a new pump, belt and while they were there might as well fit a new cam belt.

When they did the job they actually found a fault with the thermostat and replaced only that.

All has been fine for a month and now the light is back on again.

My only issue is that the seat garage said that if it was a problem with the belt slipping on the water pump I would notice an increase in the engine temp when travelling at speed. My temp guage goes to a fraction over 90' and stays there - no temp issues as far as i can see.

Before i take the car back and end up spending £400 or so having the pump etc done I wondered if any of you may have some suggestions?

Thanks,
Bob

what was the exact fault? dont think a thermo stat give a fault unless its the temp sensor.
Seat are right, if the pump was mucking up, the temp should rise.
Recommned you get the fault read. Put a request in vag section who can read fault for you. then take it from there.

I assumed that they had put it on the computer and had read the fault to come up with the fact that an issue with the cooling system has been diagnosed - or is there another computer system they should use to identify the fault more clearly - issue with the cooling system is a bit vague!!! Are they stringing me along I wonder?

out there over the edge vw tech
think they don't have a clue water pump is driven by cambelt and its the vanes on the pump that come loose and don't pump the water round which you would notice as it over heats the engine.my mates light came on on his lcr after following a rather smoke diesel van went to dealer and they changed air filter and reset and all ok up to now and that was a year ago
