Exeo Maintenance

Hello everyone, I'm new here and wanted some advice please.

Recently I found out about the SEAT Exeo and wow, it's seeming to be an amazing car especially for the money. I will hopefully win a 2010 2.0 TDI SE LUX variant today, fingers crossed.

The car currently has 61k miles and I am wondering about planned maintenances such as the cambelt. I spoke with a couple SEAT dealers, one said it should have been changed 3 times already now. I'm not sure if it has been changed or not at this point in time.

I'll be doing about 1300 miles a month and have a young baby who I of course want to keep as safe as possible.

Basically, how should I best maintain the car? I am a defensive driver and will be driving more fuel efficient than usual, though I will put my foot down a few times to get a feel for the car.

I hope to keep it running for years and just want it to be sweet for me.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Welcome to the forum.
I can’t help specifically about the Exeo, but they obviously share most mechanical parts with the previous gen Audi A4.
I’m always quite cautious personally with belts and even if there’s proof of it done I’ve never waited too long before getting it done myself at a specialist so I know it’s been done properly.
I wouldn’t bother with a main dealer, they only seem to want to deal with new cars now.
Find a good VW Audi group specialist, I’ve never had any issues using my local (ish) place and I know the car’s are maintained well.
I nearly went for an Exeo estate as my daily earlier this year but ended up with a Subaru Legacy, just a bit different with having Leon’s as my hobby car’s.
Nice car’s though the Exeo and loaded with kit Audi would have charged a fortune for.
Good luck.

Thank you for your response Nathan.

Yeah I think I'll be onto the cambelt straight away if there's no solid proof of it being done or it's looking a bit worse for wear.

I'm happy going to a local shop / private, should save some money too. I'll enquire about the cost from any specialist shops as you recommended though if it's too much I'll stick with private.

I was briefly considering a Subaru but it was quite a lot older, also not sure how the insurance would be for me (could easily check though).

Yeah I believe the SEAT Exeo is basically an Audi A4 B7 with the cabriolet B6 interior. Happy to see that it's like that / a VAG car.

Really hope I can get a decent one!

Thank you again

I have had my Exeo for 13 years and always had it serviced by Liverpool Seat and have a service contract with them. I pay monthly and its usually for 2 years at a time. It was around £26 per month last time I renewed it. It covers all the servicing costs including MOT and brake fluid change every 2 years. I only pay extra for cam belt changes and air conditioning service. The car has only done 61000 and been really reliable and have only paid out for replacement tyres on top of servicing. I had the cambelt changed every 4 years until this year when it was done at 5 years on the recommendation of Liverpool Seat. I have kept it so long because its been such a good car and has never let me down. Hope you get a decent one and enjoy yours if you get it.

Sounds like a great motor.
If you look after a car well it will reward you.
I live in Liverpool and took my Cupra R there about 7 years ago for a service.
Serviced and ask them to change the high level brake light bulb in the spoiler.
Damaged the spoiler in the process.
They also swapped out the original Seat oil bag in the boot for a standard shell one that I only noticed months after.
Might sound picky but I’m all about original equipment and accessories. Took years to find another. :ROFLMAO:
I now use Awsome gti for most things. Not exactly cheap but they know what they’re doing.

Yeah my legacy is just a 2.0l sport tourer.
08 plate.
Insurance is reasonable to be honest.
Sure a 3.0 litre wrx would be a bit different. :ROFLMAO:

A great car, I have owned 2 and still have one, cambelt/waterpump/idlers/tensioner change every 120,000m or 5 years, easy job if you don't mind using spanners, parts for around £150. Only problems that I have had was with a seaside car, the spring ends sheared off on all 4 corners over a 2 year period, the other car has been fine, never buy a car that has been living by the sea! I must add that cambelts never look a bit worse for wear! if it looks great still change it at 5 years or 120,000m

The exeo is a great car indeed. We have had ours since 2015 and serviced it with Castrol and Bosch filters every 5000miles. We went from 60k when I bought to 203k just there last month. Cannot complain at all, as long as you keep the maintenance regular and keep the brands as best as you can afford the car generally will out run most others.

Only couple things that failed really was a crack in a plastic trim at the bottom of the headlight allowed water ingress and that blew up the ballast, and other was the self leveling headlight sensor stopped working at about 190k.

Also replaced a few suspension arms in the time but again regular maintenance, when rubbers fail you can have a whole world of problems.
