My ST 143 TDi has a USB port in the glovebox.

What's it for?

I've plugged an iphone/ipod into it and it doesn't link to the stereo, and doesn't seem to charge either?

Answers on a postcard please.........:wtf:

I've got a memory stick connected with 5 folders, each containing an album of mp3s. When I press 'CD' twice to access the usb, 6 CD positions are displayed but only position 1 is shown loaded. I can play all of the usb tracks though. Seems like the system registers all the mp3 tracks on the usb stick across all of the folders but only shows them as 1 'cd'. Not great but better than nothing, and saves space of 5 CDs in the car!

I am taking delivery in 2 weeks so I do not have the manual. Could someone tell me where the usb

is located in the glovebox as I could not locate it. Thanks.

Have the same problem picked up mine last week x ref info about a USB port but I also cannot find it !! [ the IPhone/pod connector is there, with all of its adaptors]

Hi, I believe that if you have IPod adaptor you lose the usb, that is the case with my car. Julian
SOD, Wanted both. ........................................@~!@@ UPDATE, Just spotted on a AUDI web site a adaptor for Ipod/phone to USB AUDI part code # 4F0051510G, its a bit pricey at £29.60??

Hi, mine came with the I Pod adaptor kit already installed, did not ask for it and did not pay for it, dealer had choice of 2 SE143 ST's in Nayara Blue, one with winter pack and this one, I was supposed to have the winter pack one but the other turned up, but I was happy. Just had a quick look in the glovebox and it looks like it is a module with no obvious signs of extraction...Julian

julianat57 : I was hoping it was just a wiring loom change out behind the ipod dock [ which used to hold the 6 cd changer on the audi B7]

Hi OLDOILER, did you specify the I Pod connector in your order? Maybe the dealer would remove it, I would imagine that it is what you say behind this module, but whether it would need any software alteration to put it back to USB, I don't know. Both appear rather limited in their use ie, no track names etc. Also my I Pod has shut down a few times, being so cold in the glovebox (not refridgerated!). Julian

Done a quick search and found this thread and have a question regarding the usb port in my cupra..

When I plug my ipod into the usb it charges the ipod but when I try to play music through it my stereo says "unable to support media device" ?

I also tried my blackberry and I can access all my music on that?

Any ideas why it wont let me play my ipod through it? I know i could buy a AUX cable (Had 1 for my old car but lost it) but means I cannot control the ipod through the steering wheel/HU. And would I be able to charge it through the USB and have the AUX plugged in at the same time?

Hi

Maybe of help, my car came with the I-pod connector from factory. Can't stand it and think it's totally useless. So i brought a second hand OEM 6 CD changer, and it was a straight forward plug and play... no wiring or software required and it all works via the headunit.

The I-pod connector simply pulled out as it is not attached anywhere, unplugged the multi-plug and attached the CD Changer. I assume the USB would be the same.

I have the original radio (bose option) and usb ,works perfect.
Its in the glovebox located to the top and you have to insert your usb sideways.
You can't see it when you open your glovebox.

cheers
