exhaust removal

started to try fitting my fr cat back system tonight. after much swearing, fag breaks through getting to the piont where i wanted to smash the f**king car up & cups of tea. i had to just give up & re-fit the standard item as i have absolutely no idea on how the hell it comes off. i got the exhaust free from the car but does anybody know how to get it over the axle without having to cut it? i dont mind cutting it but i bought the fr one second hand & it is still one piece so the lad i got it from must have got it off his car in one go. the reason i want to know how is because i dont want to have to cut the fr one to get it on... & i dont want to have to completely remove the axle to do it. i did have the rear shockers unbolted & the rear bumper/wheelarch liner & wheel off for more room but its just having none of it!

Is it a standard or aftermarket cat back? I presume
Its aftermarket as I cant see why you would fit a standard fr exhaust lol.

As far as im aware the standard system needs cut off as after the cat its a 1 piece system as standard. Stupid, I know! My mates focus st is the same. Just make sure you make a good clean cut with a grinder preferably in a suitable place incase you ever want it refitted and you can get flanges welded on or something to join it together again

yeah it is. i only got it as i got it for next to nothing & its something shiny to poke out from under the rear bumper. better than that standard poiny downy one on it at the min. i just cant understand how the hell it came off the car it was on in one piece. who normal takes their axle off to change an exhaust?? i certainly wont, ill just cut the f**ker off & cut the new one & join it back with a bit of pipe & some u-clamps when its on the car.

Im guessing youve tried jacking up the back end till both rear wheels are off the ground to get the rear beam on full droop? If that is still not enough room you could detach the bottom shock mounts and youll get more droop.

Your best chance of removing the rear section is to undo the N/S beam mounting bolts slightly..
Then with some force (nothing major) it should come past the beam.

Thats if you haven't already worked it out and sorted it for yourself!

its on now. i cut the f**ker & sleeved it back together.
