Experiences of cheap coilovers

My ride is hard but not enough that its uncomfortable plus i love it it hads to the theme of being lowww lol my misses gets black eyes every know and again tho

Just buy the coilovers mate and get some piccys up

hi, i'm running cheap coilovers on my mk4 polo runabout, they are a make called patech, and i got then brand new for 200 notes from a german trader at a castle combe track day about 4 years ago, i've had them on about 3 years and they are spot on, nothing like damping is adjustable, but they do run helper springs all round i think they are 20lbs helpers and the main springs are 100lbs front and back. but over all if you only want something for hard road use then a cheap set is fine, if you have plans for some serious track action then go for something like kw veriant 3 or bilstine pss 9's or something like that. also one thing to think about is poly bushes if you drive hard on standard bushes with a low hard setup u can kill standard bushes quite quickly. hope that helps. also myki most common coilovers are 2.25 inch id springs but some are 1.9inch id and the are other verition on these to, so it's worth checking befor you order any other bit's.

I have things coilovers fitted to mine, to be honest for the price there spot on, The ride is fairly hard but not teeth chattering, but this is also down to your wheels size. I went from 17s to 16s and the ride is now so much more comfortable. At the moment my cupra litterally sits on the floor and the ride is still ok.

hi, please tell me about ta technix adjustments . is it harder when car is lowered and when lift car up suspension is softer?

My friend has just put some v-maxx coilovers on his mk2 golf, possibly the worst ride i have ever encountered, spend a little bit more money and you'll tell the difference. I got some weitec hicon gt's for about 400 n its v.nice !!!

I have mine fitted now... not actually driven it yet as I am waiting for the garage to reassemble my clutch hydraulics after a "simple" bleed (don't get me started!).

I have tried bouncing it... it doesn't move much... I am now wondering what the ride will be like.. can only come back and report what I find... hopefully it will be good.

It's also sitting a bit too low... and it's yet to settle... so it will get even lower... need the camber done and corner weighting (idieally).

Will come back witha report soon (hopefully they will have the clutch back together by tomorrow.. or atleast they better bloody had!).

You get what you pay for.

If you want the car to be lower than standard then cheap coilovers are fine, although how long they will last is another matter. It's likely they wont be made from non-corrosive materials and will therefore not allow for easy adjustment in the future.

If you want the car to maintain a decent level of comfort while being low and handling well, then you simply have to spend more money. My experience of cheap coilovers is that the ride is rock solid, crashy and not adjustable for damping.

In short, unless it's for cosmetic purposes only, save more money and buy better suspension.

i have got spax rsx on my car but any coilovers corosive or not after being on a wile will be a nightmare to adjust

i bought the AP coilovers from venom, can't fault them at all. they're budget KW coilovers, they had a KW invoice with them

Right.. had a drive now.

The helper springs are closed up when the car is on it's wheels (as they should).. so I think I got the right ones sent to me.

The ride is firm.. no doubt about that, but it's not back breaking, and I have no clonking or nasty noises.. so happy so far..

Now I just have to find a place to do the camber and tracking... so far not found anybody that will touch the camber adjustment.. looks like I might have to get my spirit level ooout.

Also have to fine tune the setup as I think it's sitting slightly too high at the front (or maybe too low at the back).

I have done about 15miles so far I'm happy.

I got my tracking and camber done at protyre in gloucester if thats any help
