Extra drain hole in bottom of door!

I was having a look under the drivers door on my new LCR, to check the drain holes and came across an extra one!

It looks like the previous owner has attacked the bottom of the door with a blunt instrument and made a 10mm hole in it.
Presumably this is to let the water out.

This got me thinking about the dreaded Leon water leak problem. Surely, for the water to leak out of the inner door carrier, the door would have to fill up to the level of the carrier. That means the drain holes are not doing their job properly. Maybe the extra big drain hole stops the door filling up?

Any thoughts?

Not really, When the water enter's the door through the window and rubber it would run down the inside
of the door or door carrier, Now if the seal around the carrier did its job the water would carry on down and vent out of the drain holes as intended, but since the seal around the carrier doesn't work the water doesn't carry on down, instead it enters the car and soaks the carpet.


That's my theory, Nothing to do with filling the bottom of the door.

A late posting on this topic, but, maybe that previous owner usually parked that car on a slope and got fed up with water pouring out the original drain holes when he opened the door after it had been raining.

I'm looking after my daughter's late 2009 Ibiza, and it gets parked nose down slightly, and after rain, if you open either door, water pours out, I'd rather that there was a drain hole at the forward end of the frame to stop rain water lying in there. Actually, I'd rather if I could stop the rain getting in there in the first place!
