Fan not working... help :(

Hi,

Been having a problem with the fan in this car since we've had it, one day it started smoking where electrics have probably burned out and since then we'd taken the fuse out so nothing else could happen (the fuse was high amp too cant remember exactly but maybe 20 or 30 amp).

But, now winter is here its getting a bit dangerous to see out the windscreen cos the fan doesnt work to blow the window clear:censored:
Today I went to local scrappy and got another set of fan speed/heat/direction adjusters unit just incase it was the resistor that was dead behind the fanspeed selector but it still doesnt work:cry:

I found a previous owners invoice which was to investigate the heater fan not working in dec 1999, and it says they found the fault was a burned out connector at the "rheostat" (whatever that is). It seems that they took the rheostat out and cleaned it and also the motor and connections, replaced it and tested it to find it was working fine!

I'm guessing this could be a comman fault shared with other mk2 ibizas?
anyway, can anyone help me out here, I just need to know if you think the problem could be the motor etc again and if so where is it and the rheostat, how do I get to it?
Could it be the heater matrix? although that wouldnt stop the fan from working would it?

How much you think I could get whatver I need from the scrappy?

Thanks....

P.S Hi, I'm new to the forum and this is my first post ;)

Take the glove box out and behind the dash there is this little block with to connectors. One with 3 wires in it and one with a single red wire. Take the part out and change it, that could be what the problem is. Its like a resistor thing. Cant remember the name of it but I'm sure someone will give you the name and/or part number and a picture so you know what you are looking for. I would post a picture but I dont have one.
