Fan replacement guide?

Hi all, is there a guide out there for replacing the fans? before everyone jumps on straight away with the slow speed fault i need to sort one that doesnt work. My small fan doesnt work at all.

Big fan cuts in at slow speed when the car reaches 96ish untill 89-90 degrees, no small fan.
Checked with the 3 pin plug, again big fan runs on slow speed and fast speed when tested.
AC on big fan runs at slow speed.

Small fan does nothing at any time so i need to remove it to check it and replace. Im not sure if i need to do the resistor mod as the big fan runs fast and slow when tested but main priority is to get them both working to start with.

ok so the cowling looks like 4 t30 screws holding in place, also the after run pump needs to come off for anyone who looks. will get a replacement and replace mine.

Can anyone confirm that if the high and low speeds run off the 3 pin plug that the resistor setup on the large fan that still works is fine? if so i will keep it once removed as a spare

also though they look different (motor held from a different side) do the audi a3 and golf mk4 cowlings fit the leon? they look identical in there fixing points just the fans are held from the opposite side by the looks of it?

Depends on the spec of the fan units, the Audi S3 fans are deeper not sure on the rest of the A3 engines. Some of the Golf mk4 are different sizes too. I changed mine on the LCR last summer got them from Euro. There is a thread on here i posted the part numbers on. Think it was the resistor replacement thread.

cheers for that, do you mean depth off the radiator, looks like i have plenty of room there to fit one if i needed to?

The depth of the fan units are different and sit slightly different. The LCR are thinner. This is what i got from Euro "Fan & Motor Various Vag/ Seat Cross Dock" part nums: 213440640 and 213440630. They should be the same as most Golf 1.8t and TDI 150hp models. They were an exact match so it was plug and play to fit.
