Not sure on my car...unless imported, there were only ever 75 bought into the country, but yet in 2004 it states that there were 80 of them in the UK. Any ideas?

If I read this right, the mk4 ibiza cupra has 1/3 of the number of Corrardo vr6's, which I thought were supposed to be much rarer.. goes to show how much I know! haha

A lot of older cars got scrapped in the gov't scrappage scheme - imagine how many bangers there'd be about now if that hadn't happened!!

That was a crap idea though, there were a lot of good cars went to the crusher too, not just bangers. It was all done for the economy but then they bang on about the enviroment but getting rid of the older cars instead of keeping them going is ecologically unsound, new cars are an enviromental disaster to build and it's actually better and greener to keep an old car going.

I must admit that I don't know the full facts, as I was out of the country during the time when they did it, but I do know that there's a distinct lack of smokey old cars around nowadays compared to before I went away (and I hate having to breathe in that sort of pollution). Some naturally died of course, but a lot must have been scrapped under the scheme too.

There's still a lot of smokey cars around but I think that's more down to people not looking after them, the thing I noticed was there were a lot less cheap cars to buy. The problem with newer ones is that the various parts get shipped from all over the place and end up creating more polution than keeping an old car going. Any car I've ever had has been well looked after especially the engine and my emissions were always low. The problem with a non smokey car can be the stuff you don't notice rather than what you do. I used to work in a place prepping cars from the factory before their release, these were all newer cars with cats etc but everyone always had a headache and felt sick at the end of the day from the hidden stuff. I expect a lot more people are in debt too because of the scheme, paying a car on the never never.

They're all good points, I just noticed that there's been less times when I've had to turn off the air vents due to an old stinking petrol in front. That smell knocks me sick and reminds me I'm being poisoned!
