Hi all,

I want to find out how many studs my alloy's have, but i can't remove the cap in the centre of the wheel!
This sounds very stupid but i really just cant get at it. There's no gaps to slide anything under and i have no idea how to remove it!

Here's a pic of the alloy, there are those 2 tiny holes but i can't really get anything in there. Any ideas?

Yeah that seems the only way really. Those holes are very small, i might have to go at it with some wire or something?!
I dont know if that will be strong enough to pull with though, only one way of finding out i suppose!

yep, a little bit of stiff wire bent into a hook shape, poke her in and whip her off!! They are a tight push fit.

Right! On return all i achieved was dirty fingers and a strange look from a passerby!

I tried several different things with the wire but all didnt work, i could only manage to pull the cap slightly further forward but not enough to slip a finger in.

Also i have just read this...
i see you have a red mk1 leon, its a 5 stud then ;)
Typical!
Is that 100% definate brad?

A tool like this:
No, i dont have anything like that richy, that obviously is perfect for the job! If only!

you should have something in the black box on the spare wheel... looks like a semi hook... or atleast mine did and worked lol

After reading your reply stefan i went out there again and found what you were talking about.

However, i still can't get these bloody things off! No matter how broken and bent my fingers feel!
This is ridiculous!

I had 2 fingers underneath the cap and was pulling as hard as i could and they were hardly moving.

they are defo 5 stud if its a leon, i bet you are score aswell that im right ;)

they are definately 5 stud, they are the same wheels i had on my old leon 1.4. Use a small allen key through one of the holes and pull it enough to get your fingers behind and give it a bloody good yank!!

I really dont understand why it is so hard to get the centre caps off. It is really, really hard.
I'll rest my fingers tonight, then have another go tommorow. If i ever do get them off i will be so tempted to blow them up with some explosives :D

Im sure they are 5 stud but i need to get them off if i do want to fit some new alloys.

What's great is that there's 4 of them!

5 stud for sure and i had the same problem so i used a metal coat hanger. worked a treat. give the end a bit of a bend into shape and it will work with a bit of persistance

A coat hanger sounds like a good tool, i'll use one tommorow if a few more attempts with the metal 'U' still doesn't work.

I'm pretty settled at the fact that they will be 5 stud, the thread title should be changed to 'removing centre caps' as that is more of the issue now!

your a wimp if you cant get them off lol, i just wedged a knife in the gap and popped off lol
