Is there a specific way that the gasket in the pic fits?
It's not flat, the circular part sticks out (depending how you hold it, it also dips in). Does this face the EGR valve or does it face the EGR pipe, or it doesn't matter at all?
The reason I ask is that I fitted the gasket tonight with the flange that sticks out facing the EGR pipe and I started the car and I can hear a whistling noise from the EGR and I'm almost positive it's the new gasket. At first I thought it was a leak - exhaust gasses escaping at the join of the EGR valve but that doesn't seem to be the case, I tested with some dishwash liquid around the join.

Update, it's not the gasket that is whistling, it was the EGR valve. I cleaned it with carb cleaner when I had it off yesterday but it seems to be better now.
The gasket has made a positive difference, the car feels more responsive. I always had a small stutter when the car was cold and also when accelerating but the engine feels much better.
EGR - the work of the devil

What engine have you fitted this to? I was trying to fit one onto the egr on my cr170 but couldn't get to the screws to loosen it enough to slid the plate in.

Just do it properly' blank it off and map out, these can be OK for a short period and you can still get problems, blanking it off is the only way to go personally rather than trying to fool it

Been running this gasket on a PD170 for the best part of 2 years. Since installing it, ive not had any issues with the EGR like i had prior to fitting.

I agree, ideally I'd like to blank the EGR and map it out. No dirty exhaust gasses recirculated and a cleaner engine. Any ideas on cost for mapping the EGR out and who can do this?

We have a issue with our Cr170 and the ERG cooler, we believe its failed/clogged and have been quoted 700-900 to replace.
Would it be more cost effective to delete and map out the error code on the dash.
The car passed its MOT with the fault so i believe its not a requirement.

Does it improve the performance of the car ?

Cheers
Matt

Wow this is an old thread been brought back up you can get the part from HERE it's a 1-2 day special order part and only costs £3.60+shipping :)

Wow! What a difference that makes!

The old one, with a really wide hole was not exactly dirty so quite happy!!!

Many thanks for the help!!! Why is the gasket used to make the hole so small when it could be machined into the part?!?
