Hi im gonna be fitting an amp into my leon 05 reg tdi and all the guides i see people have totaly stripped there cars inside. Will i need to do this or can i remove the interior trim without removing the seats etc.

???

I am only amping my front components so if anyone knows of a good earthing point in the passenger footwell area i will keep the amp there.

i dont have a leon myself but how big an amp are you planning to put in the passenger footwell??? surely a lack of room will dictate that the amp must be located in the boot or under one of the seats?

in all the cars ive had except for one ive put the amp in the boot and then just removed the side trims front and rear to run the wiring. a coupe of previous cars have necessitated the removal of the rear seat but thats a simple job

as for a good earthing point, any/most bolts that screw directly to the chassis are your best bet for good earth continuity but you could rub back the paint as well to make sure of good continuity

hope this helps

Mine wasn't totally stripped out no - but taking off most of the interior trim and lifting carpets is really the bare minimum IMO.

As for putting the amp under the passenger seat - if there's enough space and you can secure and ventilate it properly I'm all for it.

I haven't put an amp there so can't think of a good earth point per se, but sure you could just drill one if really necessary. Attaching them to seatbelt bolts etc is never a good idea I'm told.

hi, i was going to do the same thing as you - are you planning on running just components off the amp, or a sub?

if it's components the amp will just get warm.

if you run a sub at any 'oomph', the amp will get hot enough to steam your car windows up =)

which is why I am now relocating to the boot. like the rest of the world ;)

on my leon there's no room under the front seats as there is a support bar under the seat that runs with it when you adjust it forwards and backwards. Not allowing room for a sub.... Its worth checking and not getting it all mounted and finding you cant move your seat!!

so mines in the boot, just removed the side plastics (unclip - other than the section by the forward side of the B-pillor, which has one screw) and routed it all in...

hope this helps

hahahahaaa just realised this is a year too late
