Hi Guys,

I was thinking about getting some bucket seats, however my seats currently have airbags fitted in them. Not so worried about removal etc, but how can I remove the airbag light that will no doubt come on?

Cheers.

Ben

:D

You can either deactivate them with VCDS which will cause the airbag light to flash when starting but won't stay on or you can add a 2.2ohm resistor and everything will be normal :)

Sorry to hijack the thread, but my airbag light is on and my friendly local mechanic has said that it appears to be the passenger seat's airbag that is the problem. He suggested getting a second hand airbag for the seat. What are the chances that this will solve the problem?

Thanks badger. Will bare that in mind. Tdipat- I had that problem not long ago, cleared the fault in vagcom and it hasn't come back, caused by the seat moving back and forth I think. So that could be worth a try

Thanks rivigo. A couple of months before it came on I sorted the common leaking fault that these cars can have so I had to move it around quite a lot to get the carpets dry. So I'd say you may well be right. I'll give it a go, thanks again lad!

Badger, if you go down the VCDS route what section is it under? and can you still keep all the other airbags switched on?

You can activate and deactivate each airbag individually under Airbag and Adaptions. Each channel represents an airbag.

When you do this it may say which channel is which if not, I think that 3 and 4 are the seats.

Okay great, thanks Badger. Assuming that it will pass the MOT as the airbag light turns off eventually?

It should pass as the airbag light will turn off, just warn the MOT tester to wait.

I must warn you though that some Airbag modules may not program this way and give you errors when you try and change the settings so a resistor is usually recommended.

Okay well I'll give either a try, ordered the subframes so just need to order the runners and seats cheers!

Has your local mechanic actually looked at the wiring under the seat? Could be a loose plug or ill-fitting wires before jumping straight to buying an expensive airbag...

Thanks for the reply Badger, I was thinking that myself. I think I'll try the fault clearing first then delve a bit deeper if that doesn't work before I buy an airbag.
