Fitting HIDs?

Yeah I know, I don't mind taking them out for MOT purposes 
my HIDs haven't arrived yet but I was just think where to mount the ballasts that's all, never had a set of HIDs before.

Hope you have a friendly MOT inspector,as cars now need self leveling suspension and washers now.
EDIT: i fitted mine between the headlight and the slam panel...the ballasts that is!

Not sure how many times I have said this but... You do not need either of those for the MOT!

But in answer to your question yes the ballast will have 4 or 2 holes at the edge. Just drill through the slam panel and 'secure how you wish.
A good 4 cable ties works well. Lol.

My Golf flew through MOT with HID's no problem. One of the headlights had to be adjusted to get the correct beam pattern, he adjusted it, it worked, it passed.
Depending on how anal you are about your engine bay, you can either get a nice shiny silver ballast and mount them to look good. Or tuck them away somewhere, up against the slam will work. I used the slimline ballasts which were fairly small and discreet.

Just a load of poo mate. I believe its a legal requirement to have Hids in projector headlights etc but for the MOT you can have HIDs in reflector headlamps as long as they are correctly aligned.
Best bulb for that would be the H7R for the MK1 Leon.
Mine went straight thru mot & i didnt know the mot tester
As long as you use H7r bulbs with std headlamps its fine but you will need the alignment done as i did on the mot

Not true. The testers can't just fail something because the don't like it. Mot regs don't say anything about HIDs not being fit for the mot.
Testers can't make regs up just to fail it.
The law says the HIDs must be in projection headlights with auto levelling suspension and high power headlight washers.
The mot says none of this.

here's where advantage of South Africa, no MOT here, just renew tax disc once a year for around £10-15. and that's it they don't look at car nothing so what you do to car they don't car really unless it illegal and cops notice which is rare.
I never said they would. What I meant was if the tester is that anal, he would fail them due to not giving off the correct beam pattern.
If the law states that, when you get stopped by police and they ask you to take a full mot test, and give a producer, depending on the tester, he MAY fail it, for not producing the correct beam pattern.
It's a very vague subject.
I'm not getting into a massive pointless argument. But as I said, some will fail and MOT and some won't. If the tester is anal enough to check your beam pattern and he see's there is none or it is incorrect, your car will fail an MOT.
