I wanna fit a double gauge pod to my LCR. One for boost and the other for oil temp. Does anyone know how this is fitted please?

You can get a modified banjo bolt to replace the ordinary bolt on the oil feed lines which has a threaded "hole" to screw the sensor into or I think some places do a similar modified sump plug that you can screw the sensor into. On my last car I had a sandwhich plate between the oil filter/block that had 2 ports for gauges... but on the newer VAG cars with the drop in filters I'm not sure that's an option.

You will need a high pressure t piece connection, you can get these from a hydroulic fittings shop,,
Various fittings/adapters to suit your sensor,, I think the thread on the oil filter housing is m10x1mm,

I could only get a 1/8 t piece so had to mess about abit, couple of extra adapters, but if you could get a m10x1mm threaded t piece, I'd get that

Screw your m10 adapter into the filter housing, attach you t piece to that, then put your oil pressure sensor on the t piece, your left with one open port,,

If I was you, I'd be putting an oil pressure sensor in, not temputure

That's what on done on my 20vt

Ah sweet cheers for the help mate will have to look into it and see if I can get the m10x1 t piece. Ill do the same and get an oil pressure gauge then. Just need to try and find some gauges to match the dash. Dont mind getting decent ones.

Really? (well ideally you want both) but...

Oil temp gives a much better indicator of when you're engine is at proper operating temperature (unlike the coolant temp gauge) as the oil takes a lot longer to warm up and conversely when you've been running the engine hard you'll see the oil temperature going up, you don't want to exceed the 100DegC mark for too long because the oil can break down and be less effective. It also gives you a built in "turbo timer" because you'll know after a hard run when the oil has cooled back down to "ordinary" temps before turning off the engine.

Oil Pressure also gives a good indicator to when the oil has reached operating temp because the pressure will drop as the oil warms up. But then really it just sits day by day until you have a pretty major ****ing problem and the pressure drops because you've either dropped the oil out the engine or you've cooked the oil (which you could prevent if you had an eye on oil temps)

They kinda do the same but different... I'd go with Oil Temp personally.

Both oil pressure and oil temp are valuable information sources. I only have boost and oil temp, but would like oil pressure as well.

Oil temp sensor: sandwich plate or screw it in the oil cooler housing (top bolt)
Boost gauge: use a vacuum nipple from inlet manifold

Proper oil can handle temps above 100deg. I personally would be worried if the temp exceeds 125 degrees for longer periods of time for the same reasons you stated above. My temps are normally 100-110 (115 max), which I dont worry about to be honest. Im driving with Kendall 5W50 btw

Just what I went for on mine, I'd had the oil pressure warning flash up,due to the pick up pipe being partially blocked,, so after replacing that I fitted and digital oil pressure gauge and sender so I could keep my eye on the pressure, i wasn't trusting the stock sensor which doesn't goe of till 10psi, far to low!

Flash point for fully synth is ~ 200C Mine always used to run about 95C-105C when driving normally-spirited so yeah you'd probably good up to 120C peak (that was semi-synth though)

@Lowry - you're probably right about picking up little blockages, shown by a marginal but constant increase in pressure. fair point.

Those defi gauges are damn sexy. Are they 52mm? I'd like them in a twin pillar pod. Are they hard to fit?
