hi all, I'm attempting to fit my vr6 clutch and g60 flywheel this weekend, anybody got any tips you can share please just to make the job abit easier because I've never changed a clutch on anything before!!!

cheers Jay

Did mine a few weeks ago. the whole front end up support on axle stands. i removed my intercooler pipes and disconnected the power steering banjo going into the pump to give a bit more space. tottally removed the subframe at the front of the engine. lossened the subframe at the rear on the drivers side and dropped it at the passenger side. remove passnenger side strut to aid in refitting of the box.

when undoing and tightening the bolts for clucth and fly have a socket and bar on the crank bolt on drivers side to stop the engine turning.

I would reccomend making sure you have power steering fluid. (green stuff from Seat best from what ive heard). i would re bleed your clutch so a litre of brake/clutch fluid. have a 3/8ths torque wrench at hand for tqing the flywheel and clutch bolts. and plenty of boxes to keep bolts in so you know where they go.

if i remember correctly, the flywheel bolts are 25nm then 180 degrees, and i think the the clutch bolts are the same. i would advise double checking tho on autodata, if you call your local seat dealer they should be able to check for you also.

Whereas i had it on two axle stands at the front, took the battery out, the std intercooler, remove the shafts (can be done with drivers still in the hub, but its easyer to just remove it) unbolting the drop links for the anti roll bar helps the wishbone come out the hub, the starter, the mount attached to it, and gearbox mounts, bowden cables etc, then took the box out.

lie under it and drop it out on to your chest, a friend to help from the top is recommended, but i have done it myself, both removal and fitting,

undoing the power steering, removing the subframe and loosening everything else is a lot of unnessesary work!! (plus tracking will need done again as the subframe may have moved, and loosening the subframe means the engine is loose too as it mounts to the subframe!) plus removing a strut, thats a lot of work too, splitting brakes etc

thanks tucker, more ideas the better, I think me and my mates will make a start and see how we go, they have said the same plan of attack as you :)

hey ive had problems with my clutch slipping so ive removed the gearbox and found a solid flywheel so how do i know what clutch to get?

clutch???

hi,
like maf said, does any1 know the part numbers for the golf vr6 clutch kit?? as his has been converted aparently?

Just to revive an old thread. Out of curiosity if i went to seat and asked for clutch and flywheel bolts will they fit on to a SMFW and a VR6 clutch?? or are they different?
