Formentor Roof Control Panel Issue

I have had my Formentor for about 3 months now and have been totally happy with it. Yes, the infotainment takes a bit of getting used to but have had no real issues and I love the car. (You just know that there is a However coming!!) However, in the past few days we have had very sunny weather, particularly last Friday and the last couple of days, and I have found that the roof control panel gets very hot and stops working, when the car is in direct sunlight. I have a sunroof and when its sunny the controls don't work, so I can't open the sun roof, kind of defeats the object. Its not just the sunroof control that stops working, the whole panel stops operating. Once the temperature drops it springs back into life!! I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue lately? This car is made in Spain and there is more sunshine there than here in grey/rainy old England

Sunroof on my car seems to work fine regardless of weather. I'll keep an eye when it is very hot.

I know it's not perfect but maybe open it by using the key (long hold unlock).

Hi Peyton, Yes, that is always an option. Just went out in the car and again the panel is v.hot and not working 🤪

I thought about it and I can honestly say that it never happened to me. And I usually open the roof immediately if the car is hot.

Hopefully few others can comment. Maybe you have a faulty unit that should be replaced.

It was the same here, I have used the sunroof quite a few times since having the car, until we had the past few really sunny days and the car is in direct sunlight. I will see what others say and see if anyone else has experience this and speak to the garage!

I have the exact same issue with my Formentor. When i leave my car out in direct sunlight, the control panel for sunroof (also led lightning) doesn't work. However in mornings when going for work, because car generally parked in closed garage, i have no issues on operating sunroof. I have contacted with the dealer and ordered a new panel but the lead time will be around 2-3 months. By the time panel is replaced, summer will be gone and there will be no issues anyway :D It's always frustrating to have these kind of problems on brand new cars but there is no perfect car out there so we just have to accept these minor drawbacks.

Just a quick update, still having issues with the control panel when the roof is in direct sunlight as detailed above. Have spoken to the garage and the car is going in to be checked out. The garage stated that they had not heard of this problem before? Have to wait a bit as the earliest they can fit it in is the 25th July! Hopefully they won't treat this as an intermittent fault, as I am sure that the day it goes in it will be cloudy and the panel will work just fine! I think I will shoot a quick video for them, so they can see the issue when it is occurring.(y)

As I side note, I have noticed that the flag under my username name is currently German, although I am English & I live in the UK! However, I am currently in Germany :)

Here is an update on my original post. My car went into the garage yesterday for the technicians to check out the roof control panel. Of course, it was not a hot day and the panel was working. Good job I did a video for them, showing clearly the issue when it was occurring. Upshot is that they have said that the panel is indeed faulty and needs to be replaced, great (y) . However, and I am sure you will guess what comes next, the control panel is on backorder with the factory with no ETA!!🥲. The up side is that it will be winter soon and I won't want to use the sunroof anyway 🙃

I should also update my post here. My sunroof panel has been replaced recently. I didn't get much chance to test it due to extreme heats. I don't use my sunroof frequently in these temperatures. But as for a few times i tried, it messed up. Curtain didn't respond occasionally and it seems like a chronic problem and we have to live with this. Reliability for sunroof touchscreen is horrible.

I would like to share my experience on this matter.
From time to time the roof control panel and the ability to turn on the interior lighting stop working.
In my case, it's not temperature dependent.
A locked panel sometimes starts working again during the same drive, sometimes after re-entering the car, and sometimes only after a few days or weeks. Certainly, disconnecting the battery restores the functionality of the panel.
I've had cases where the roof tilted and closed on its own while driving. Then the control panel did not respond to touch.
In a situation where the control panel does not respond, using the VCDS or OBD11 diagnostic device, at the output tests section of the roof module, you can sucesfully send commands to open / close the roof or blinds. This means that everything works from the side of the CAN bus and the problem is with touch recognition part of controll panel.

I have had the exact same issue, sunroof switches currently not working.
Having the sunroof tilt open itself whilst in traffic is common and can only close it by long pressing the lock button on the key fob.

Same problem with mine a couple of weeks ago, roof internal cover slid back about 6 inches then the roof repeatedly tilted and closed. later on at 20 mph the car slammed the brakes on, no problems after that until the other day when the roof played up again but no braking issues, car goes in 6th Feb.

Same problem. Even courtesy lights switches stop working. For example it happens after opening the driver door…
Any other updates form your side?

With reference to my sunroof problems I had a new module fitted, no problems since other than the odd infotainment issue.

Hello, i had today for the first time the issue of the sunroof control pannel not responding to touch, did the battery disconnexion solve permanently the problem, or do i have to change it by another one in dealer shop, thanks

I have a fault on my roof module. Its not related to sunny hot weather, I live in Aberdeen after all! While driving the occasion fault opens the sunroof and blind a couple of inches...just enough to let the rain in and always whilst I'm driving and unable to stop. Whilst the fault is active all roof controls on that panel dont work. No fault found by the dealer and note made that I would monitor it. Its now due for it's 2 year service and has started self opening again. Anyone else had this fault and how did you get the dealer to resolve it. They ask for videos but it's happening while I'm driving and alone. After about 10 minutes the fault clears and I can manually close the sunroof again.
