Hi,

I am considering going to view a 2006 Leon FR TDi 170 with 51k on the clock. It has had a JBS remap to 210bhp.

"Leon mk2 fr tdi 210 bhp" in for sale section.

I have read various stories of remaps on this engine which has concerned me. If I goto view this car I want to try and get as much research done before hand so I know what to look for.

I would appreciate any help from you guys to assist me, its also lowered 40mm so anything to check there too?

Any advice will be great!

Thanks

JBS use custom code maps that have a varied history on this site iirc, make sure it has a FSH and check to see if there have been any previous dpf or injector problems. Do you have anymore information on the exhaust, does it still have a dpf on it, might be worth taking it off to avoid problems if its still on there.

lowered 40mm are probably eibach sportlines, ive got them and their fine, but check the ride, the PD FR's were very firm but listen out for any knocks and damper wear as aftermarket springs can put extra strain on standard dampers.

Been to see it today. Car was really nice and pulled like a train!! I was not driving as my insurance has been paused until I find new car. I didn't notice and clutch slip or suspension knocking while being driven.

Its lowered 40mm on eibach like you mentioned and ride seemed fine.

Has full service history and only done 51k so far. I was really impressed with it. The exhaust has only been replaced with a cobra back box.

Going to get it HPi'd and all being well buy it. One thing that did concern me is its a 56 plate and had 3 previous owners, the current owner has had it just over 3 years so it had 3 owners at the beginning very quickly.

JBS hasent had the greatest of reviews on various vag forums , i think you just need to view the car as it is , if it drives well and is mechanically sound then if its what you want , go for it , look at posts the user has posted to see positive and negative posts about his car , then make a judgement.

Are you suggesting that the previous owner couldve been a member of SCN, now that i think about it a dropped leon using a JBS map and exhaust probably will have been or is a member on this site, worth an ask i suppose.

It is being sold by POWELLY . Seemed good car. Didn't notice anything although forgot to spot for engine management light. Would it have made noise if it came on? Might be worth one more drive before handing over cash? But it all looked okay when he took me out.

I can't post links but if you look in the for sale section its in there

I appreciate all the coments guys...

Apart from clutch slip (which I couldn't notice any when he drove it) what other issues would there be from a remap? Would worse case senario be just take the map off?

it might make your injectors go a bit early, but with the PD's thats a bit of a gamble for a standard car anyway, other than that just your dpf issues will be more frequent depending on your mileage.

Of course any worst case scenario is that you burst into flames and career off the motorway taking a bus full of nuns, children and new born kittens with you :D

lol....

Sorry for all the questions. What is the dpf and how would I spot issues? Only done 51k only 5k in last year.

ok a dpf is a diesel particle filter, google will be full of info and the problems that relate to them. Its basically a part of your exhaust that catches soot etc and burns it off at a high temperature lowering your cars Co2 emissions. unfortunatley if you do short journeys a dpf can get blocked and the car basically tells you to bomb down the motorway till its burnt it off, if you dont make it in time the dpf can block and the car will go into limp mode, you will then need to get it forced regenerated which isnt that cheap tbh http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=317235 so you dont want to be doing it all the time.

Cars with remaps will need to regen more often, however if you drive enough longer journeys you car wont have a problem as it can regen itself if not too blocked. I had a PD with a bluefin stage 1 and only had to force regen it once in 90k miles but i do a lot of motorway miles. You will no when the car needs to regen as the dpf light will come on and provided your on a motorway / A road you wont have a problem.

Good advise there Graham, I have awarded you 1 imagenary Rep point:lol:

I say go for it, every marque has it's "commen problems", worth the risk in my opinion.

Christian.
