mmmm personal choice mate. I like the small compact cars as I have no family to speak of. Cupra also looks netter than the LEON, which I like too but I would have a K1 tbh. Leon is a little sparese on the interior fotr my liking but a good car all the same.

The Leon is the comparable model to the A3 and Golf mate.

Since you already own a mk5 it will be pretty much the same but with stiffer suspension and more poke.

How many miles a year do you do?

mardon: yeh i know - leon/a3/golf are same car

ibiza/polo/a1 are same cars.

adverage 6k a year in mileage. build qaulity would be better on the a3 and golf i would guess

if it were me it would depend on the spec.

Cupra would be better than a standard a3 / golf, but if it were obviously an s3/rs3/gti/r then i would probably opt for the audi/vw.

My sis has test drove an a1 and they are really smart! the s line one is lovely to drive, although not as quick as the cupra

yeh i know what you mean about going for s3/rs3/gti/r but there WAYYYYY out of my budget

budget of 15k +/- 2k depending on spec, i tend to look on broadspeed at discounts so for cupra with the spec i put on it was around £15,600

edit: got it wrong, book price £17,550
broadspeed price standard £15,766

optional extra's i put on - convenience pack
bi- xexon's
tomtom prep

broadspeed price with options on - £16,885

If you are doing around 6000 miles a year it would not make sense to buy a diesel. It would be a different story however if you were doing in excess of 15, 000 miles year but in your current situation the extra price of the diesel engine wouldnt compensate for the better fuel economy as you arent doing alot of miles. Personally I'd say go for the Cupra! The Polo R looks nice but Im not sure the extra £2/3k just for better build quality and the badge really make it worth while. Hope this helps a little :)

on a 1.6 diesel golf it takes over 4 years to break even for a 1.6 petrol a3 it takes 3 years, i like the audi's but going to test drive an a3 lunchtime tomorrow then going to wizz over to droitwich seat and look at the cupra and fr ibiza's

Id have the cupra just for the milage, dont rule out the clio 200 tho, brillaint car with lots of fun, but not much tuning potential, and megane 250 is out of the budget.

Personal opinion, id get the golf. So much nicer than the cupra inside and comfier, although not as sports. My experience shows me vw looks after customers more too, plus resale value (especially audi!) Is much higher.

If you can stretch to it id get the golf gt 1.4tsi. Also, set on buying new?

Boca!

But you knew I was going to say buy mine, spec could be altered to your taste if need be, can find standard wheels etc if you wanted 17s etc.

Im not sure on the A3's. They are nice and all but have been around a long time now. about 7/8 years IIRC. the Ibiza's are a much newer design but as said before wont be as good build quality. You will get surprisingly good MPG with the Cupra's. I usually always average over 30 and my best ever was 45.1. And the Cupra's look much better than all the cars above IMO. Although those Renaultsport Meganes do look the part! Have you got a rough idea of what your gonna go with?
