Yeah CR engines are 4 years, or 120,000-140,000 miles. My 1.6TDI is 120,000.

Is it worth changing it, I've just had a letter from my dealer saying my car is due one.. I thort they was just after my money!

If you're on 120-130k miles or 4-5 years then I would seriously consider it. If the cam belt fails it could cost £1000's

If you're on say 50k miles and 4 years I would wait another year.

If you're on 120k miles after 3 years I would get it done soon.

I would wait another year. VW say 5 years on the same engine.

The cam belt will cost you about £350, get your £350 worth by putting some miles on her during the next year.........

what VW say is irrelevant, you have to go by what SEAT say, if your unsure send them an e-mail and they will confirm when the cam belt should be changed, that way if it fails you have some sort of comeback with them

Or just look in your manual... Do people not get these when they buy a car anymore?!

Sorry, why is it irrelevent?

It's the same engine in as near as makes any difference the same car (golf)

After 3 years there is no warranty to keep.

yes and no, if you were to have a catastrophic failure but had ad heard to what SEAT UK have said then they would more than likely help you

may be part of the same group but they are separate company's

I can't understand how manufactures not just Seat sell a car new with a service schedule set out in the handbook and can then drop the timing belt change massively and not be liable for the premature cost.
On my previous 2 Leon's in the service book said timing belt change 110k or 10 years and they actually dropped it to 4 years or 60k
Why should it be up to the customer to chase the manufacture to find out if the schedule has changed?
Let's face it you don't need to return your car to the dealer for service to maintain your warranty and if your car was serviced within manufacturing guidelines set out in the vehicle handbook it wouldn't be changed until much later so who'd be responsible for the breakage?????
Sorry to go off topic slightly but I can't understand how they get away with it.
Lots of companies and people buy a car because the manufacturer advertises a 5 year service cost which doesn't include timing belt change.
