Yep, in gear times are not really all that important on the grander scale of things. Take a Civic Type R and a reasonable diesel, say the 2.0TDi 140bhp. In gear times, the diesel would beat the Civic Type R, but only because the Civic needs revs to work at its best. 30-50mph in 4th may be the best gear for the diesel, but try doing the same sprint in the Civic in 2nd gear and you will see the diesel fall back ;)

I've noticed that the top speed qouted by Seat for the FR 2.0 TFSI is lower than in other models. For example 149 mph for the vRS and 147 for the golf GTI. Is the Leon heavy or bad aerodynamics?

Possibly less aerodynamic, but I would doubt the FR is heavier than the Octavia. Think the standard MK2 Leon Cupra top speed is 153mph which is only 4mph more than the Octavia despite the extra 40bhp!

guys... I was not trying to say that FR in any how is faster than the Cupra, they are nearly the same weight with 40 ps more in the cupra.. I've driven both and hell yes Cupra is more powerful.

but what I was trying to say is for a 1/4 mile drag and for a Cupra driver to match the dsg gear changes in FR, he really needs not to make a 1% mistake in the gear change, not to mention the wheel spin on 1st gear!

If a standard FR TFSi with DSG can do the 1/4 mile in less than 14.31 seconds, I might believe it.

Until then, I remain to be convinced. Good luck to those who try it in doing that because two Edition 30 DSG's managed the same sprint in the same time give or take a few thousandths of a second. ;)

We are not going to convince ourselves that we're idiots by believing to the title of this thread ...:blink:

Fed up with this stupid discussion ...:whistle: :help:The FR is faster than the Cupra ...:ban::confused: The one who wrote this should be put down at birth and the title of the topic should change immediately ...[B)]

0-60 the DSG will help the average driver. But I for one am pretty bloody quick on the stick and have managed to be get the fastest STANDARD CTR time on CTR site and as far as I know the fastest Stage 1 LCR on here... I'm getting DSG in my ED30 and as good as it is, I don't think it'd be lightyears ahead of what i'd get in a manual to be honest.
As for the the 2 Leons. The Cupra would do a DSG FR up the 1/4 quite easily to be honest. It's basically a 0-100mph race. In which the Cupra is a good 4-5 secs faster..

The important think to consider is the torque that goes through the wheels, not how much the engine produces. Gearboxes and final drives multiply engine torque, and if you do the maths, the Cupra puts down way more torque than the FR and both put down more than the FR TDI.

Its really not worth the the virtual ink this 'debate' its not even a real world discussion as stated already you drive in the optimum gear for that car, putting it in 4th at 40mph is stupid, it's like saying 'my fr had its handbrake on and so did the cupra' the fr pulled away quicker', no drives with the handbrake on and no one races in 4th gear at 40mph!!!!!!!!!!!?????????

The FR was way too fast for me when test drove one, thats why I went for the Cupra.
I couldn't handle the power.

It might be to do with the suspension on the FR being feeling more harsh, so it feels faster because of it.

The DSG is faster at changing gears than anyone can do in a manual, but I'd be very surprised if that made it faster than a cupra.

Theres a great video online of a Japanese guy, dubbed the 'Quickest Shifter in the world', driving a Golf GTI, and he is racing against a DSG boxed Leon. The Leon wins it because even the Japanese guy, couldnt keep up with the shift speeds.

this thread is pointless!

The Cupra is badged, priced and sold as a Cupra because it is the top of the range model and I'd swap my FR TDI for it tomorrow if I could afford to run it. In the real world, it is a (much) faster car than both the petrol & diesel FR. In my opinion, the best way to compare 'fast cars' is the Top Gear method. One lap of a cicuit. Standing start. Same driver. I suspect the result would be a pretty unanimous Cupra victory.
