as the title really, whats the recommended running in mileage for a 170 tdi ?

Just wait until the engine oil is upto temperature then drive it like it should be

the manual says 1000 km or 620 miles in old money!

The manual also says for the DPF it needs to be driven at higher revs.

So read in to that what you like.

I just tried to keep it below 3,000revs for the 1st 1,000 miles, which in 6ths is a prison sentance causing speed

just be calm for the first 1000miles
