Hi there guys, need some help please,

My last MOT was last march 31. On that mot i was informed my fromt tyres were worn on the inside and was told to get them changed.

So, got 2 new fk452 and had them balanced and fitted, along with full wheel alignment/tracking.

Since that mot ive only done 6.5k miles. Had my recent mot this march around the 30th, and was surprised to find out ive got wear AGAIN on the inside of the tyres.

Whys this happening? Pls help

The mot/garage bloke said it was the camber causing the inner wear. But he said they couldnt adjust it as they didnt have the tool for the job?? And that not many ppl can adjust camber?

Is this so?? Because i cant afford new tyres every 6k miles :-(

The camber adjustment is done at the Bottom ball joints on the LCR so whoever did your full wheel alignment should of adjusted them if they were out of spec, otherwise they didn't carry out a full alignment. You are supposed to have about a 1deg of negative camber iirc.

I have this problem, albeit on a Leon Cupra TDI! Have had AP coils and poly top mounts fitted in January, new ball joint on passenger side recently and still have worn inner sections on both front tyres...would brisk driving style cause this problem? The rears have much more camber but are ok tread-wise.

i have said it before, and i will say it again:
4 wheel alignment doesnt always mean camber etc will be checked/adjusted, it is very often just a check the wheels are aligned. and thats it. ie tracking correctly.

You need to clarify if 'Geometry' will be included which means such things as camber etc.

Although i accept many places use different terminology and get it mixed up. - how can one garage charge £22 for a 4 wheel alignment and another £85? likelyhood is one include the geometry aspects. which is funny when they charge for this then say we cant adjust it anyway.

Also the wheels may be aligned correctly when static in a garage, but perhaps there is some play in a joint, bush etc meaning when accelerating/breaking there is movement.

@Andycupra i hear exactly what youre saying mate. Places use incorrect terminology that lea you to believe that the camember is being adjusted when really its just tracking, which is what youre saying with the £22 and the £85 diff in prices. Thing is, where can i get GEOMETRY done from? Is there any place in the midlands?

I rang Midlands VW and they said they do camber adjustment for just £30?

Dont know where to begin.

@paul, i honestly cant rember whe i had them done

Hey dude nice to know you still have your leon!

I had this problem too when I bought mine. First of all you need to have 3 things checked for wear:

1) suspension top mounts
2) the rear bushes on your front wishbones
3) ball joints

All three if worn will affect your camber and will affect how much your camber can be adjusted.

The have a look on this site for a quality alignment place in your area: http://www.alignmycar.co.uk/

Average prices for an alignment vary between £75-£85, expensive but if it saves your tyres it's got to be worth it!

Hope that helps.
