Hi,

Just noticed on my MK3, that the wipers don't move up or down slightly when the car has been started or stopped.

Does this have any effect on the car or not?

Cheers

It's to stop the rubber in the wipers hardening in one particular angle, which hopefully makes them last longer but also stops the annoying juddering scroping noise when you come to actually use them. Personally I wish the rear-wipe did the same thing!

+1 on the rear wiper. Mine is terrible and makes a horrendous noise on the first pass over the screen. I've tried cleaning it and the screen so we'll see if that helps.

I thought it was more as szax says. They drop down under the bonnet line for aerodynamics whilst driving. But come up when stationary to enable you to lift the arms up / change the blades when required etc.

Blade change uses the Service Position (Ignition On>Off, then single wipe on right wiper control).

If the OP's aren't dropping on start up it will create extra wind noise at speed, so probably worth asking the dealer to have a look when convenient?
