Hi. I noticed the other day that the fuel cap doesn't lock on my 2013 Leon FR. Strange thing is, when I open it, I can't see a locking mechanism anywhere. Does anyone know if actually has one?! Cheers.
No, it doesn't. Must be a fault somewhere I suppose. I'll mention it when it next goes in for its service. As I say though, the strange thing is I just can't see a locking mechanism anywhere. The fuel cap on my old Audi A3 failed a few years ago but it was easy to see the locking mechanism on that (a metal prong).
The bit sticking out is the only part you should be able to see but only the tip of it, the rest is behind the plastic when you open the door.
The bit sticking out pushes inwards when you close the door against it and turns 90degrees to lock the door in place.
They do break but usually when they do the door doesn't open rather than not locking.
It's very simple to replace if yours is broken and there are a couple of threads on here about it. If your door stays closed then I'd imagine the actuator is there, if it doesn't lock then the actuator may be faulty.
The other thing worth noting (as others have wasted alot of time doing it) is that there is no emergency release for the fuel flap on the Leon and it CANNOT be accessed from inside the boot.
The only way to get at the actuator (part 2) is by opening the fuel flap door, removing the screw (part 3) then removing the plastic housing (part 1). A thin trim tool is needed to slip down the edge and pull it out. Even just getting the left hand side of the housing off is enough to let you in at the actuator.
