Hi
I have recently purchased Seat Ibiza Good Stuff 1.4 60 plate petrol. I filled the fuel up on purchase and the miles on the display said 290 to the full tank. This seemed odd, but I thought I would see how I went. I am a sensible driver, whose journeys are back and forth to work in normal traffic. The journeys are about 15 minutes long and I hit 70 mph for a small stretch of road. The car actually did 310 miles to that full tack, which still seemed low for the cost of £ 55.00.
I put the car into the garage for the mapping to be checked and this came back as fine. They did however say that the car needed a service (which was supposed to have done just before purchase!). The fuel, air and oil filters all need changing, the spark plugs need to be changed and it needs an oil change. I have only changed the air filter at the moment and I filled the car up again and got 350 miles out of it, but I also did a bit of motorway driving with this tank.
I have since filled up again and the display in saying 270 miles, which is so scary for a car that I read reviews on and it is suppose to be highly economical!
If I change the other parts needed will this increase my miles travel to fuel used? Has anyone got experience on how far on average these cars do to a full tank? I have checked the tyre pressures, so is there anything else that I could be missing?
As it stands I can’t afford to run the car and it’s a shame as it’s such a nice drive…
Please help
:(

so 310 miles probably to about 35 litres as you would have used the full 40 that the tank holds comes out at around 40mpg which isnt too bad

forget what the dash says as this changes to your driving style

around town will be a lot worse than a steady road and running at 70mph will kill it too stick to 60 or less if you can

also what is the mileage?

I'd forget, in general what the current projected range is after filling the tank - that all depends on if you have filled up when the engine is cold, and so current average MPG will be low, conversely if you have filled up when the engine is hot, the current average MPG will be a lot higher.

Check and record your "tank to rank" miles and long term average MPG as this is a lot more accurate than just checking projected range.

If you only ever fill up from proper service stations you will end up using proper fuel and the fuel filter might just out live the car.

These super light weight Ibizas should get a lot better MPG than previous generation Polos, because the bodies are lighter and they are not normally loaded with extras like the Polos tended to be.

Mine always says somewhere around 300 for the predicted range but I've always had well over 400 so just ignore it. Total miles achieved per tank is what to keep an eye on.

Best case I get about 410-415 miles out of a tank in my 1.4, but 15 minute journeys will never return good mpg in my experience, especially if it involves an acceleration up to 70. Doing my daily 15 minute commute to work where do an almost door to door 40mph, I am lucky to get 300 miles per tank. You'll only see the stated top mpg figures on longer drives.

Also, as said here, it's generally best to ignore the computed figures, and compute fuel use vs miles travelled when you next fill the tank.
