UPDATE: It is now 10 weeks since my car has been at this commercial
garage.
Latest work:
1 - it was sent to a former Seat
dealership, to test if the injectors needed replacing. they did this with a "donated" car, of the identical model and said that the test was successful and got the engine running.
2 - the car went back to my commercial
garage guys and they ordered the injectors. I requested a detailed list of everything that has been checked, tested, replaced, but they evaded this and said they were still trying to keep the costs down for me. they said it took the Seat
dealership 6 hours to test the injectors and received a hefty bill for it.
3 - I rang the
garage, to be told they were awaiting delivery of the injectors. they did not tell me what they had ordered. But they did say WHEN THEY CHECKED THE FUEL, THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF SWARF FROM THE FUEL PUMPS IN THE SYSTEM. i messaged the
garage a few days later on a Tuesday to ask if i could collect the car by the end of that week and got the reply "we are still having problems with your car."
4 - i will ring the Seat
dealership today to speak with the mechanic that worked on the car, to see if they actually ran the engine, for how long, did they test drive it etc.
I feel despair at the length of time this has taken. in the 10 weeks i have received only 2 phone calls and one email from this
garage and not been consulted on part replacements, tests or pretty much everything they have done. i trust they are good guys, but now wonder at the experience of the mechanic that has worked on it and have no idea if they may have messed something up in the process. ultimately it is their company's responsibility and whoever is running the
garage. they are an extremely busy and experienced company dealing with all models of cars. The car is a 2012 with only 88k mileage, was in impeccable condition and i have averaged less than 7k/year over the three years i have had it. It was completely serviced by me in September and passed its last MOT with no advisories. my only option is to leave them to fix it and negotiate the costs, considering i have not been consulted or updated with any work. but i will insist on a detailed log of all work and labour costs, before i part with a penny.
if they cannot fix the car by now - i fear the worst outcome and i'm clueless as to my rights and options. i will have lost a £3000 car and potentially have a
garage bill over £2000. I had a face to face conversation from the outset that i would be willing to spend half its value, for a car that may keep running for the next 3 years, instead of selling it for spares/repair and buying another vehicle. (on top of this, I initially spent £80 on a new HPFP filter and £500 for a remanufactured HPFP when the filter wasn't the
problem). The stress and inconvenience this has caused me is not worth any of this cost.
thank you to all who have helped - especially James R. I think they must have paid some attention to your advice. But they are proud guys and i think by now sick of having to work on this car. I have no idea what condition it is in and whether or not it has been cared for whilst standing idle.
