Has anyone noticed a significant increase in MPG after having had their car remapped? I've done a search (of course!) but the threads all seem to be about increased power and how much better cars drive after having work done.

Obviously increased power and driveability are important, but can i expect better MPG too (if i'm not using all the extra power all the time of course!)

Cheers
Ciano :)

Alot of people with 1.9 tdi's seem to have an increase in mpg after a remap. Can't comment on it myself like.

I saw a slight improvment after a P-Torque map.

49.9MPG on the way to P-Torque
51.1MPG on the was home after P-Torque (and I had to test the map out ;))

Think it was roughly 130 miles each way (motorway)

most will get an increase in mpg, but it may just be the trip computer being fooled.

But a slight increase is possible,

Pretty sure mine gives a better mpg after p-torque remap unless I am really leadfooted
then everything just disapears in a cloud of black smoke lol

I wouldnt hold out any hope.

In theory with the increased torque, if driven currently for mpg. It will decrease fuel consumption. However, as we all know, once remapped are you realy going to drive like miss daisy? Doubtful.

However, even after my somewhat mental remap I still get 50mpg on long journey's and thats not hanging about, 70mph on motorways, the odd blast down a country lane and getting up to speed at a decent rate.

I would honestly say dont expect a increase, and if you see a increase. Bonus.

I agree with T.Spark, after my remap I just drove everywhere with lead boots but when the novelty had worn off and I started driving sensibly again there might have be a slight improvement in mpg! I can see up to 60mpg on a long run! :)

As above posts

Once you get a remap, for the first few weeks your going to see a slight drop in mpg due to the lead boots

I did, but now the novelties worn off and I know I can use the power when I want and not all the time :p my mpgs around the same as before

But even when I give it some welly it's not that much different :)

Update

Thought I'd test the remapped mpg question in full tonight

Took the car for a very spirited few runs tonight on a great road near me (it's a brand new road with around 6 roundabouts going through a new business park and it's very quiet ;))

Traction control off as well so could get the wheels squeeling and spinning on the roundabouts :p

Result was 35.4mpg :)

On the journey home after our Revo Stage 1, the consumption was shocking. I couldn't feather the throttle to get an increase in MPG at all.

I drove the car a couple of weeks later (the wife uses it day to day) and it was back to normal, if not a little better. I guess the ECU had adapted to the new needs of the car and settled down. THe novelty does wear off after a bit and the extra power on tap comes into its own only when you really need it (or forget and shock yourself).

Unlike before though, I can get into single figures if I boot it!

Being an engineer, that road has been named after someone famous. Only noticed the name of the road the other day.
