I am looking into improving my fuel economy and have been advised that installation of a magnet, ie motoflow, would help increase my economy.

Motoflow claim: http://www.ecomagnets.com/motoflow.htm
"The Ecoflow Motoflow magnetic fuel saver is designed to condition the fuel prior to combustion to increase power output, save fuel, and reduce emissions."

There isnt much debate on use of the motoflow, apart from those who currently use it say it is worthwhile:

I have a TDI, and wonder if anyone uses such magnetic device to attempt to improve miles travelled. Obviously the manner you drive the car is a major factor, but wonder if anyone has experience of good or bad with this particular product.

Would welcome any sort of response, specifically geared towards TDI engines.
Thanks

Oh please, pass the bucket.

you have a tdi and yet you still try to improve mpg?, how about not mashing the throttle like a hyper family fortunes contestant. feel the pain of us 20vt owners 27mpg!
These sort of widgets are plain useless and make no difference whatsoever.

shoot me for trying to be environmentally friendly and also save myself some cash :p

thanks for your advice, very helpful in making my mind up

Dave, they do not work mate. They've been tried and tested before.

I remember watching a programme called mythbusters on discovery channel not so long back when they tested these and they came to the same conclusion as the advice above. Stay clear.

If your wanting better economy than diesel, thought about LPG?

fixed magnets are'nt likely to work, field coils however cycling at frequency over a pipe containing gas/oil is claimed to improve efficiency of burn.

Sceptical myself, but am proceeding to talk with suppliers in the scope of gas fired boilers (industrial sized).

As I said in the thread I linked to, car manufacturers would give the earth to get a few more MPG out of their models so there can't be any easy / reasonably priced way of reducing fuel consumption.

If you are really that bothered pace yourself when approaching lights / roundabouts, turn off your heater / air conditioning and rear demister, clear out any unnecessary weight and check your tyre pressures.
Other than that - buy yourself a more economical car!
