As the title suggests, going to service my new purchase my self, just to keep it fresh, any one know how to change the fuel filter, know how to bolt it on etc but I have read some where I may need to prime the system via VCDS (not a prob as I have it)..
Assuming we are talking diesel here. Changing the cylinderical diesel fuel filter in the black clamp located top left on the bulkhead is physically very easy. Make sure you get the "in" and "out" sides marked clearly and the right way round, its just a couple of pipe clips. Put a cloth underneath when you release the hoses.
You will need to go into fuel pump basic settings in VCDS and cycle the fuel pump for no less than 3 times for thirty seconds each.
I believe you need to fill the new fuel filter with diesel before putting the second hose back on. When I did this I didnt refill the filter and no amount of cycling the fuel pump would get it started. In the end I had to get it towed away to a VW service centre very embarassing.
These CR filters are not the same as the old PD units which would self bleed the air out. I just get the local VW service to change mine every two years. Once bitten twice shy !
Yeah will do Vinny, the pd engines were easy, drop in filter and start! Amazing how black they got even just after 5k! (I change the oil every 5k and all filters once per year on all cars I owned, just like to see them kept in good nick)
I changed mine last week, although I have vcds here it wasn't needed, change filter making sure it's the correct way around 2-3 seconds of cranking....job done
