Hey Guys
I went to fill up the Car, light had just came on so thought id fill it up - went to petrol station no 1 and as soon as i went to fill it it kept clicking like the tank was full - took me a good couple of mins to put a tenner in it so thought it must be the pump - went to petrol station 2 and it done exactly the same thing but managed to have enough patience to wait for it to get to 45.00 - this is the first time i have put diesel in it since i bought it. Any ideas as im at a complete loss and would rather get advice before complaing to the garage i bought it from 2 days ago

Once i had put the 45.00 in it, the tank would not accept any more and it wasnt even full

That's not normally the car, I've had it from particular petrol stations. I don't know whether it's when their tank is running low or when it's full, but as you have seen it does affect more than one pump.

Try filling up somewhere else first. Also, don't push the nozzle all the way in, you might be making an airtight seal (although it's unlikely).

Overall I'd blame the petrol station before the car. Unless your fuel sender is faulty, but you'd only be able to find that out by running the car dry.

It's the funny vent system on the vag cars that causes it most of the time, as said though, keep the nozzle back a little and also try turning it slightly. A lot of guys in the states do a thing called a ventecomy so you can get more fuel in at a time and also stop the click click clicking. You'll get the hang of it though I'm sure.

Does your car have the metal flap inside the bit you put the nozzle in? I'm sure in some cars there is a metal flap there. When filling up the nozzle pushes open the flap and your fuel goes in the tank.

Could it be the fuel spraying off the flap and triggering the pump to click?

lookup here or on http://forums.tdiclub.com for ventectomy takes longer to explain than do and you only need a screwdriver it will help NB not for petrol cars:)

This happened to me on my second fill (still on that tank - amazed having come from a Clio auto getting 200 per fill to 450+ :D ). The first time I filled from chugging fumes at a Sainsburys (ugh) and put 30 in, no hassle. Then tried at a Shell from the light, click - 0.2 litres later, click. Mum was in the car and it filled up fine when she tried!

We put it down to the angle (and possibly the depth) of the nozzle going into the neck - I'm 5'10 and my Mum is a pint-sized 5'2 and so we found I was holding the nozzle at a higher angle whereas my Mum was putting it in level and it filled fine.

Try turning the nozzle slightly, I usually have mine turned clockwise slightly. Just do it without thinking with every car im filling up.
Its down to the style if the filler and if it turns just after the fuel cap, meaning if youve got the nozzle straight its just going in, hitting off the bend in the filler and cutting off the pump as it bounces back
