Because the state (IIRC in the handbook) not to use any additives in the fuel or oil etc.

From a SEAT point of view its a no no and can invalidate your warranty.

This concerns me :( I've used millers pretty much from from new. That's about 14 months ago.

Mine isn't an DPF engine so not sure if it's still relevant to my warranty being affected. Techie??

I can understand Seats stance on this and will not risk my warranty in view of that.

But it is a shame really as from what I have read Millers is a good product. I liked the idea of it's lubrication properties in particular, which would probably give you some protection from the ever increasing bio-diesel blended fuels that are being forced upon us these days.

Any excuse to void a warranty and they will jump on it. It's not worth the risk.

On the other hand, you could also question how much you value the warranty. If you've only got six months left, and you have a dealer you wouldn't trust with an egg sandwich, then stuff them and go for it.

millers

ive used millers in both my leons with dpf and iam using in my ibiza fr , i have not had any dpf issues at all using millers, so perhaps i taking the chance but having the motor chipped using kn filters ect ect would also be a warranty issue

Don't know why but I got the owners manual out tonight and had a read.

For petrol engines Seat actually advise you to use additives. The book says,

"Petrol additives improve the quality of the petrol"

It goes on to say,

"The quality of the petrol influences running behaviour, performance and service life of the engine. For this reason, you should use good quality petrol containing additives. These additives will help to prevent corrosion, keep the fuel system clean and prevent deposits from building up in the engine.
If good quality petrol with additives is not available or engine problems occour, the required additives must be added during refuelling"

Under Diesel there is no mention of additives, but being pedantic one could argue that as they didn't say you shouldn't add additives then you can, especially as they recomend them for other engines.

My local filling station has a notice on it's diesel pumps advising that their diesel contains 7% bio-diesel, which is the maximum recomended for use in the Seat Ibiza. I have noticed that if I fill up at a different garage that is not blending it's fuel, I get between 5 and 10 mpg more. That suggests to me that the Ibiza doesn't like the bio-diesel content and is why I initially considered using the Millers additive, to protect my engine.

It sort of opens the whole debate up again, do I or don't I. But as far as I have read and please correct me if I have missed something, there is nothing in the handbook that says "don't use additives"

All diesel contains a min of 3% bio now by law I think.

Pretty sure all fuels sold in the uk will contain additives of some description, but if they are added by the oil company then they are tested and guranteed etc. I'm not saying Millers etc are bad etc but I guess from SEATs point of view they would have tested that engine with a fuel conforming to a DIN regulation, anything that you add to that fuel then changes that and thus it's untested so they can't gurantee it.

I used millers in my PD engined cupra and it was great. A lot less black smog. Shame things have go so complicated with the new CR engines.

Just wondering if anyone with a Diesel engined Ibiza with a DPF uses Millers Diesel Power Ecomax?

Having read all the blurb on it I am very tempted to use it. The only thing putting me off at the moment is, nowhere can I find anything to say it is compatable with Euro V vehicles fitted with a DPF.

I have used Miller's diesel additive [ in all it reiterations!!] since 1999 and NEVER had any problems in fact the latest Diesel Power Ecomax additive seems to be better still on my 2.0 pd DPF and with 5 cetaine improvement in boost. I note what techie said and agree, but you don't have to declaire it do you [ I have had problems with shell V Power, so have not gone back to it - engine derating at long high rmp's]
