Hi all,

Recently my car had started with a ticking "noise" when cold, the sound decreases when drivin for about 10 minutes or so.

Suspected manifold gasket...but... Isnt this the clear evidence??

The ticking could be the carbon canister. That's the little black box by the power steering fluid reservoir. If you unplug the multiplug from the carbon canister and the ticking stops, there's the source!

Normally a blown gasket along the exhaust system will make a bassy, pulsing sound, like a V1 rocket I guess. It's very distinctive and not what I'd describe as a tick. However, that does look suspect and the decrease in noise as you drive could be caused by the manifold expanding with the heat and closing the gap a little.

The best way of telling is to turn the engine on and place your hand by the suspected leak. You'll be able to feel the blow.

I agree about the canister, but when cold, the canister does not tick. Unfurtunately, i cant get my hands close to the manifold

Ticking gone after the gasket was replaced

Got me worried now I might have the same issue?

In this exact area I have a ticking/fluttering type noise whilst ticking over or slowly pulling away. I also seem to be a few psi down on the boost I normally achieve and so wonder now if this is all connected??

Try to get a Iphone or similar with a decent camera down there to get a picture, it might reveal something
