My Formentor (a 245 Hybrid if it's different from other non hybrid cars) has three gearbox modes, D, S and E (E only being available in the Individual drive profile).

The car, while it always starts in Sport mode always starts in D gearbox mode.

Q1: Why does it always start in D gearbox mode when though it starts in Sport drive mode?

When I then select S gearbox it stays in Sport mode, but if I flick the gearbox selector again in switches to Comfort mode (and gearbox D), flick it again and its back to S in Sport mode.

Q2: Why if the gearbox mode change to S also changes drive profile to Sport, does it not start in S when starting in Sport mode?

Q3: What does E gearbox mode actually do? Does it coast, etc. (does it coast in D)?

I own a 310.

1. It's like this on all cars. I've been told it is due to emissions but I am not sure I agree. It looks like lazy programming to me.
2. It doesn't really start in full Sport driving mode when you leave it in sport. On a 310 - exhaust flaps are closed if you start the car in Sport or Cupra modes - even though the dashboard tells you are in these modes. Only when you change to another mode and flip back you get the exhaust flaps opening (and car starts to be louder).

Honestly it's one of my annoyances with the car. Not sure why do they do it on a hybrid as well.

All VAG cars start in the most economical setting, like comfort or eco. In whatever mode you leave the car in, it will say it is in that mode the next time you start the car up, but you are actually in comfort/eco.

For example, you always drive in Sport. If you restart the car it will say it is in Sport but it is not. It is in comfort/eco and you will have to switch to Sport again.

If I'm correct VAG finally, after years, changed this programming on the latest 2022 models so you know exactly in what mode you are in.

My Mercedes does the same. Starts up in Eco Save the world mode as Sports mode kills Fluffy bunny rabbits
