Mine's making a whining noise but only when changing down into third.

Different people have suggested a knackered bearing and a gearbox specialist said it could be something less serious. I'm probably going down the refurb route, but if you find somewhere selling cheap replacement gearboxes let me know!

mine was a bearing. Refurb cost me 300 ish from a gearbox specialist in Botley/Hampshire. Very good job

Mine is doing the exact same thing. Its also quite noisy when you let it coast down in 3rd. Any ideas what the something less serious is? I'm trying a fluid change on mine, I reckon I'm clutching at straws though

Well, Seat took it for a test drive and afterwards the gearbox had a sweat on, suggesting a minor oil leak. Had the gearbox oil changed and it hasn't really improved the problem, but the thick sludgey black oil that came out (even at 55k it should still be golden yellow-ish) suggests that the damage is already done. But there were no metal particals in the oil. So the bearings might not be totally shot. It's going for a refurb fairly soon... :headhurt:

Ollie, I like the £300 bit though... was preparing myself for spending up to a grand (new gearbox) worst case scenario

acording to an online reputable reviewer, the 6 speeds are prone to conk it after 6 years. depends how you drive it really.

hmm after 6 years you say? well i've killed a vauxhall box in less than two with only 27k on the clock i maintain that there was a manufacturing fault or something tho, doesn't look good for my gearbox tho lol

please note this is a work van there is no way i'd drive a vauxhall otherwise
