What's the general opinions on here on the Seat Ibiza Mk3 1.6 Sport. I've recently started a new part time job, saving up for a car. I have a fund of about £2k - £2.2k atm, and I wouldn't mind a sport 1.6. Been looking in the for sale section, not much about, and I've been snooping about the third party sites too, just returning a few results tbh. I either fancy a 1.6 Sport or a 1.9 110 Sport TDi.

* * This is not a wanted section thread, just trying to get some research done. :) * *

What are your thoughts?

Hoping in buying one in that nice Blue (topaz? or is that the Mk2 colour) if possible, that would be really nice, either that or black if I find that I'm being a little too fussy

I'll be buying some kind of Ibiza by about september time hopefully :) So let me know what you think, reliability etc, any concerns etc. :)

The main reason is because I'm finding my insurance is coming down pretty well, I have my own N.C.B on my dad's name atm, so it's all good in the hood! :)

I have a 14 year old CLS Mk2. and it's becoming a little irritating and unreliable now, don't love it as much as I used to ha. Anyway...

Thanks!

what about a mk2 gti? surely you could pick one of those up for your budget

I was thinking that actually, but an 8v is only 113 - 115bhp and a 1.6 is a 100bhp, with a lower ins. group and better fuel economy...

had a blue mk3 110tdi 3dr when they first came out was mildly chipped to 130ish and was great fun - good all rounder

can't remember but it wasn't Cupra (imperial) blue a bit lighter so i reckon and looking at Crezzy's mk2 it was pretty damn close to it to be honest

silver wheels and black skirts and bumper trims - was so much fun me and Martyn nearly got arrested in it :)

i would tell you it's crowning glory but you'll have to pm me

too right mate! I like the Ibizas, and I'm not intending on going for anything else other than a VAG tbh. VW's hold their values, and are not ALWAYS as ambitious in design as an equiv. Seat maybe, imo. But yeah I'm really keen to look more into these 1.6's. Doesn't seem to be THAT much about of them though on these sites.

Ive got one :D Ive got the 1.6, with a nice exhaust they sound sweet (better than mats cupra!)

They are good little cars for what they are, Ive done a 0-60 in 9.7secs in mine and a 1/4mile of 16.9 secs so aren't slow. Taking it steady on the motorway you can get some good mpg figures too! (cruising at 60-70 Ive seen almost 40mpg!)

Obviously the diesel is more tune-able, but is awfully loud and not that economic.

Ive had mine since october, its nearly done 92,000 miles and still running fine, gearbox oil was changed few weeks back and it was clear! (no work done on the gearbox at all)

Ah good to know, thanks for sharing that with me, awesome mate! Thanks again! :)

Anyone else with anything so say about the 1.6 / TDi 110 models? :)

Thanks!

If you want reliability go for a ek4 civic.
Cheap insurance and 90bhp standard - can be tuned to around the 120 mark too !!

Just IMO

You cant beat the look of the mk3 though !!

yeah I know, I was tempted by a Honda some time ago, but I don't really like their styling . Think I'll stick to the Mk3 tbh, it's between a 1.6 or a TDi I'd say. Aiming for that Cupra look-a-like look to it when I eventually get it :)

Anything I should watch out for on particular date models? Anything significantly wrong with some models at some point in sale?

take a look at antnee's -i reckon they look a lot more distinctive as they are personally and adding the black roof is just auto pron :)

I've got a mk3 tdi sport with full cupra bodykit and 17" wheels and the cupra interior. Looks like a cupra and with a remap can push around 140bhp ive heard so would go quite well. Engine wise mine is standard at the moment apart from a backbox (only put that on to fill the cut out in the cupra bumper). But even as standard its nippy and fun to drive. I'm averaging about 42mpg but then i do thrash it every where and most of my millege is done around town. The tdi also has rear discs where as the 1.6 sport has rear drums iirc. For the money peronally i would take the tdi as its easier and cheaper to get more bhp (with a remap), does more mpg, is £120 a year to tax and is only IG 9.
Thats my peenies worth. Hope this helps.

Ah that's ideal mate, thanks for that!... That helps a lot :). How many miles did yours have when you bought it then? That's made it a bit clearer for me now. thanks again for that :)

Keep me updated :)

Whisper.... wait until Christmas and you can have my rusty 8v for a quarter of your budget ;)

Averaging 38 mpg over the last 2000 miles or so, not bad. Should be quicker than the mk3 1.6 petrol or tdi.

thanks mate, but no thanks. I still like the Mk2's... but I finally think that they're only nice to look at :/, someone else's car that is. I just feel that they've become a little dated, so therefore - I'd like a little fresher looking Mk3. Im really tempted to get the TDi sport 110 one... apparently it's the same engine found in Golfs? :) I sometimes drive my nan's Golf Match, and it's lovely! My dad also owns a Sharan TDi, where by all of these engines are said to be noisy and rough, I find them pretty damn nice tbh :p

Mine had 88,000 miles on it when i got it a year ago. It now has 106,000 on the clock and i havent had any real issues with it apart from the dreaded MAF. But i cant really moan as ive done nearly 20000 miles in a year! As for the engine its loud when cold but once its warm it quietens down and the drive is smooth and it always put a smile on my face. Since i've had the car ive put all the cupra kit and interior on it, had it serviced at Seat, changed the brake pads and i think thats it. So not too bad really

Heres a few piccies for you.
