How often, if at all do Glow plugs need changing? Just want to be sure as this is my first diesel, dont ever want it to not burst into life because I forgot something rather stupid...
when they break basically, which isn't very often really. It's very unlikely that they will all fail at the same time causing non start problems. I have a faulty one at the minute which on a very cold morning causes it to run slightly lumpy for the first few seconds until the cylinder affected warms up but now the weather is warming up it's not so bad. Started it this afternoon for the first time for a couple of days and it fired first turn and ran fine. Modern diesels don't rely on the glow plug anywhere near as much as the old diesels. h
Hi Ben, you should find your glow plugs will go on for a while..........I have a 175k miler with the original plugs still in it!
I must be honest, I don't know if they have a life time on them or not, but my car has always been serviced on a regular basis and it is a topic that has never been raised
yep agreed. you dont actually need the plugs to start a direct injection TDI either, they just help it start quicker and smoother, so dont worry about them failing.
