Golf Match or Leon Stylance?

I have had a Golf SE for just under 4 years and thinking of changing it. I have had a look at the Golf Match and the leon Stylance.

What to go for? Or then again do I change at all - my Golf 1.9 SE TDI only has 8550 miles on it even though it's nearly 4 years old!

I would keep it untill the new MK6 Golf is out and see what that is like as with your low miles someone is going to get a great used car.

I have had a new MK5 and the build quality was not as good as your MK4 you might as well get your moneys worth out of the one you have.

Either keep what you have or look at the 1.4tsi Leon Stylance. Good performance, reasonable fuel and road tax. For low mileage users its better than the diesel. Certainly more refined and more powerful.

1.6 Leon Stylance is also good. City MPG of roughly 35-38 MPG, just over 40 mpg on a run. Good torque at low revs too.

I was so disappointed with the Golf (GT Sport) - felt the build quality was no better than the Leon (FR) and the quality of materials inside felt only marginally better.

Leons are on the whole better equipped than Golfs, like for like and there are so many Golfs on the road!

Certainly go petrol if you are doing such a low mileage.

It's the MK5 model I have - got it within a month of them coming out.

That's the one I'm looking at.

I can get it for around £400 less than the Golf Match 1.4 TSI.

To be honest I feel the Golf Match is identical to my current Golf SE so it would not feel or look any different apart from the different engine. The Leon looks so much better.

have to say ive driven the 1.4tsi in the golf gt with a dsg box and it was fun had it for a week while my r32 was being fixed. the fuel economy isnt great if you push it. but normal driving it will be good. also it sounds ace! the supercharger spooling up sounds so good!

Clarkson said the TSI engine was clunky? He said there was a performance drop when the Supercharger stops and the Turbo takes over, or something like that?

i didnt notice it felt stronger with turbo and you cant notice when it switches either. and it felt quick and that was after driving my r32 and not long after getting rid of my ibiza fr with 241bhp no sloutch. was very good with the dsg as well certainly the way forward with fuel prices as they are and tax

I think I would like to go for the 1.4 Stylance, Silver with Bluetooth & Ipod connection. Total price is £15,450. As I said already my Golf is a 1.9TDI SE, first registered April 04 and with only 8555 miles. It's silver with only a small scrape on the nearside wheel arch. I would prefer to trade-in as opposed to private sale.

What could I realistically expect to get from the dealership as a final change over price?

Go and see Mike or Colin at Bickets in Kimarnock. They are great in there and will do you a good deal. Tell them I sent you.

Thanks - I've been doing my homework and researching what Volkswagen are selling used Golf 1.9 TDI SE for.

May 04 , 28,542 mls - £9995
Sept 04, 31,627 mls - £10,950
Oct 04, 12,200 mls - £11,000

So far I've been offered £9000 from two Volkswagen dealers against a Gold Match.

One Seat dealer offered £8510 against the silver Leon 1.4TSI with no ptions added. One had the cheek to offer £6600! He has since phoned me back and said after speaking to the Volkswagen franchises, he made a mistake and will beat the other price. After saying how much - he would just say "substantially"! Wants me to come back again -something makes me think he has suddenly been informed of the worth of my Golf. He wants to bring the car to me on Wednesday to make sure it fits in my garage.

If I get the trade-in price to £9500 would I expect to pay the full price on the Leon?
