Golf mk3 box in a mk2 gti - ISSUES HELP!!!

Im at the end of the road now with my mk2 gti 8v.
After months of it been off the road due to not finding a box, i went on advice and bought a rare mk3 golf gti 8v box re-conditioned for £400. Bought a new clutch and paid a man lots of doller to put it on. Problem is the box is fine but i only have 4 gears. 1st, 2nd,3rd and 4th are all there but i cant select 5th or reverse. reverse will go in if i ram it in but its a struggle. has anyone fit such a box in a mk2 sucessfully? any help would be greatfull, i just dont know what to do and im really beat, broke and just fed up with the car. Ive used original ibiza selector and weights on the mk3 box...anyone got an ideas, please?

Linkage needs setting up i guuess. Haynes book of lies may help.

5th and reverse are both on the outside edges of the gate - is the linkage bar that moves side to side the same length - be worth a check/swap with golf one
