Graphine Grey - Good for Hiding the Dust

Having not washed the Leon for probably two months now, considering this is a very exceptional hot and dusty summer a grey car tends to not look too bad (from 10 feet) at all! The black glass pan roof gives it all away though.

It does look remarkably clean for two months without washing; graphine grey looks to be quite a forgiving colour for hiding dirt. My car’s red and I was quite surprised at how well it hides the dust - not quite as good as my last car though which was white. My red car looks quite clean from 10 feet or so, but not much when you’re close up! Car was last washed around a month ago.

When the hosepipe ban in my area was first announced, I researched rinseless car washing. I bought a rinseless product that I’ve so far used once which was when I last washed the car (not that much choice of rinseless products; most were sold out - presumably due to drought restrictions imposed by the water companies). I watched a load of YouTube videos before using it as the technique is a little different to normal car washing (and drying) compared to a conventional safe wash technique. I was quite pleased with the results which were pretty good and I didn’t end up with swirled paintwork. The big bonus from an environmental perspective is that significantly less water is used than with normal car washing. I was quite nervous about using it though. Any residual water I had left over wasn’t wasted as I used it for plant watering in the garden - my plants have become accustomed to being watered with ‘grey’ (second use) water over the years .

I live in one of the driest parts of the UK and weather forecast for the next ten days is predicting rain on quite a few of those days - it’ll be the first rain we’ve had for over a month. If the rain does materialise I’ll let nature do its thing and let it wash the dust off my car………
