Hello all,

So I have a small issue... when turning right, seems to be noticible when pulling away out of a junction and around roundabouts at lower speeds but going with harder turning... Anyway I get a grinding noise from the front nearside wheel area. One time it clicked a bit but every other time it was definitely a grinding sound. Any ideas??

Thanks

That's a Deffo Yeh? Don't want to be throwing money at it and it doesn't solve it. Done that too much already lol. Cheers

Jack the side up that you hear it from and spin the wheel slow, fast, turn then spin, you should hear it if it's the bearing, if you take the hub of yourself a garage should press in a new wheel bearing for £10/£20 that's what I do when they need done

I had clicking which then turned into grinding especially while going around corners on my MK1, turned out to be the CV joint.

It's only if I go a put more load onto it as in turn a bit harder. If I drive nice and slow which I do 99% of time as I drive like a grandad, I don't hear a thing. Cam I live with it for a few months or does it need sorting asap? In middle of moving homes and it's an expensive process! Cheers

Just make sure u have enough fluid, as ur saying you hear noise on full lock,

Jack the wheel up and have a listen and a fell for roughness through the wheel, it's so hard to pinpoint a problem with not hearing it or seeing it.

Sorry not on full lock. I think when I turn right it puts more weight onto the left front wheel and that's when the noise occurs. Just checked fluid and it's bang on the max mark. Cheers

Had same kind of noise with mine, gradually got worse so decided to do something about it.

When turning right out of a junction or going round a long sweeping right bend or round about would hear and slightly feel a rumbling. On full lock right when parking etc I also had a grinding/scraping noise.

You're right to think it's the near side bearing as there is more load on the left bearing when steering right. I had the nearside bearing changed, also the outer CV joint on the off side as the boot had split over a year ago and thought it might have dried out explaining the grinding noise.

Everythings perfect now so quite chuffed. Bearing & joint only set me back £60ish & labour was £60 from a mate who works for a dealer.

Good luck with yours bud.
