GT28RS + FullRace completed - Massive thanks to The Phirm and Badger5

Just a quick note to say thanks to the team at www.thephirm.co.uk and also Badger5 for the cracking job on my MK4 Golf Anni BT install.

A wonderful custom build around the FullRace manifold which another tuner (mentioning no names) said couldn't be done. Tim and the team have produced a work of art with all the custom hard piping, downpipe with external gate entry etc.

After late nights and some blood spilled in Farnham getting it ready inside a tight deadline (I'm demanding to say the least) I took it up to Bill on Saturday for final mapping.

What can I say about the end result? The car is smoother than it was on the mapped KO3S, returns decent economy on a motorway cruise and then putting your foot down reaches three and a half grand and turns into a total demon. The map literally feels like it came out the factory - great work Bill.

I will let Mr Brockbank add his own comments on how the car feels but I get the impression when we floored it onto the disused runway he was quite pleased with the results.

Highlight of the day (Bill's coffee aside) probably came when I thoroughly scalped a Bosxter S on the way home. We pulled up at the lights we had reached and he gestured for me to wind the window down. "Fair play mate you killed me, what the f**k is in that?!"

"Just a 1.8" I said "It picks up ok"

His mate next to him was creasing up.

A few little bits to complete in the bay with some additional heat protection (piece of mind really) and looking to get it on the rollers over the next couple of weeks. I will let people know the outcome.

Thanks again.

Steve

Glad you had a good time with Bill mate. Saw this in its v.final stages last week when the silicone had just turned up. Think Tim test drove it that night. Must say the install is v.v.tidy and your charge pipe=sex! Nice feeling having it all completed and getting a tad more power isnt it! Chuck some pics up!

Thanks for comments guys.

I'm at work at the moment but will try and get some up when I get home.

I've got to tart up the rocker cover and inlet manifold + steam clean and degrease the bay so it won't be show car standard just yet.

Dont worry about that! I'll post up a pic of my bay if you want and it'll make yours look immaculate! Havent cleaned it since going through the massive muddy puddle at the bottom of the lane to the phirm and its filth. Looks like iv been off roading or something!

Also put a pic of your brakes up please :D

LOL. Ok, I'll see if I can source an adapator for my phones memory card at work.

Sounds like a very tidy competent setup. I agree, we must see some pics. I really rate the manifold. Aparently full race have yet to experience failure with them.

It was good fun doign yours Steve.. Was as interested in the full-race, GT28Rs,44mm Tial combo myself. Tim had indeed done a good job on the install. There's more room for the DP in a mk4 than ibiza... but its sits in there nice. top mount anyday for me.

Base map supplied by Custom Code as a get you to me 'safe' was smooth and actuator pressure. (1bar) - drove smooth as, fueling spot on, no CF's... just right. Email spec for my request sent to James @ CC and the full stage 3 code with "da boost" was returned, flashed in, and road test began. :D :D :D

Smilies say a lot.

The Golf reminds me of my ibiza (given me more urge to finish mine now, thanks Steve) with a raspy exhaust tone, equal length tubular mani's seem to give. Aggresive tone. More aggresive acceleration too. Considering its a heavy mk4 it shifted very well, with good urge from low to mid 3k rpm and banzaii from 4K onwards to off the clock.

sprinkling of Cf's in the odd 3 or so, afr in the sweet spot, and a healthy 1.6bar which was then tailed down to 1.4bar when I custom settings things about a little.

One flash from CC Stage 3 to this not seen before mix of components, some local adjustments with custom settings to dail it in and all was well. Respect to CC for that. The code sure worked well out of the box.

Nice setup and very comparible with the VF34 in delivery terms, just a lot stronger "shove" from the GT28RS

well done all, nice to see a alternative to the other. So whats peak and held boost? I remember the gt28rs had a slightly larger compressor with alot larger compressor housing. So what do you reckon bill a true 350bhp?

peak 1.6bar and it would hold... but I turned it down a smidge to 1.4
I would think 350bhp is realistic

That ride in the passenger seat I had when the first "big boost" map was flashed felt like 1000bhp to me Bill! ;-)

But then I'm not the best when I haven't got a steering wheel in my hand as we discussed lol.

I would be extremely chuffed if it was near that 350 figure - we shall see (dyno lottery dependant of course)

It did go very well from the butt dyno (tm) :) More so than the VF34 equivalent..
Let her rip on 100% load on your dyno and back down again to its 95% setting and compare. (if you can)

Nice guys, interesting that you could get it too hold 1.6bar.I cannot get the evo turbo to hold much more than 1.5-1.6 bar at redline absolutely flat out.
I've always wondered about cams on a 1.8t,anyone know the standard duration and lift?
steve it would be great to see it on a Dyno Dynamics Rollers.

Standard duration is not a fat lot.
All specs on elitedubs in bobs forum. Lots of room for improvement. Dropped boost pressure at max turbo flow by a couple of psi, which is about half of what the big port head did.
Small port or big ports on standard cams hit peak flow at 6500 or below.
With aggressive cams, and short runner intakes, the power peak assuming the turbo can flow enough is the rev limiter

Bill, Got the settings application down now with Ross tech cable so will adjust loads when on the Dyno and see what happens.

Ryan, I'll post dyno type after the visit as well.
